Postion:

Intermediate Full Stack Developer

Location:

Remote - Southern Vancouver Island or Lower Mainland

September 13, 2026

As an Intermediate Full Stack Developer, you will design, build, and maintain features, services, and supporting infrastructure across the stack, working with modern technologies alongside a small team of talented, low-ego people.

Role Summary:

At Delta-X Research, every role contributes to a clear purpose: helping electric utilities and industrial operators make smarter decisions that protect critical infrastructure and keep the power on. We’re a collaborative, science-driven team building trusted software that delivers real-world results.

As an Intermediate Full Stack Developer, you will make critical contributions to the product across the entire software and infrastructure stack. This role works closely with Product Development, Product Management, Research, and Customer Operations, and plays a key part in translating business requirements into technical solutions for the data acquisition and diagnostic challenges of high-voltage equipment. This is a remote role, and we are looking for someone based on southern Vancouver Island or in the Lower Mainland.

Who We Are:

Delta-X Research is a Canadian software company serving the electric power industry. Since 1992, we’ve helped utilities and industrial operators detect risk, improve reliability, and prevent outages with advanced analytics rooted in real-world transformer data.

Our flagship product, Transformer Oil Analyst™ (TOA), is trusted by more than half of the largest utilities in the United States. We’re a pragmatic, purpose-driven team that values scientific integrity, deep thinking, and the impact of our work on the people who keep the lights on.

Why Work With Us?

The work we do matters, and so do the people who do it. At Delta-X Research, you’ll find a respectful, low-ego environment where curiosity is encouraged, quality is valued, and good ideas come from everywhere. We believe in doing meaningful work without burning out, and we support each other in delivering thoughtful, high-impact solutions.

But meaningful work is only part of the equation. We also care about how we work together, with collaboration, trust, and a healthy respect for life outside of work. We celebrate wins, learn from challenges, and make space for growth.

The development team works in what we describe as a craftspeople-not-labourers, best-idea-wins, sustainable culture. It is a team that values thoughtful communication, shared wins, and work-life balance, where technical decisions are made on their merits and nobody is asked to sprint indefinitely. This is a small team where people talk to each other daily, and the work goes better when you enjoy that.

We offer:

• Competitive compensation range of $81,350 to $102,300 to start, plus profit sharing.
• Comprehensive benefits, including medical, dental, life insurance, and long-term disability.
• Three weeks of paid vacation, with room to grow over time.
• A fully remote work environment with a team that trusts you to do your best work from where you work best.
• Opportunities to learn, grow, and expand into new areas as we scale.

A word about working together in person. While this role is primarily remote, the software development team meets in person in Victoria at least quarterly for planning, architecture, and team building.

If you’re looking for meaningful work on a team that values your perspective and supports your growth, we’d love to hear from you.

Who You Are:

You are a developer who thinks of yourself as a craftsperson rather than a labourer. You take ownership of well-scoped work, contribute to shaping the approach with stakeholders and senior developers, and make and record sound technical decisions within your area, escalating when scope grows. You are low-ego and you believe the best idea wins. You are keen to grow through pairing and day-to-day collaboration with senior developers, and you look forward to mentoring newer team members as your experience grows.

What You’ll Do:

As the Intermediate Full Stack Developer at Delta-X Research, you will play a crucial role in building and maintaining the software and infrastructure behind the tools our customers rely on to manage high-voltage equipment.

Software Development and Technical Ownership: Design, build, and maintain features, services, and supporting infrastructure across the stack for the data acquisition and diagnostic challenges of high-voltage equipment. Take ownership of well-scoped work, contribute to shaping the approach with stakeholders and senior developers, and make and record sound technical decisions within your area, escalating when scope grows.

Code Quality, Security and Development Practices: Follow and help maintain coding standards, security guidelines, technical documentation, and automated testing strategies. Conduct code reviews that support quality and maintainability, and help keep the team current with a fast-moving cybersecurity landscape.

Technical Guidance and Mentorship: Participate actively in code review, both giving and receiving constructive feedback. Grow through pairing and day-to-day collaboration with senior developers, with opportunities to mentor newer team members and take on increasing technical leadership over time.

Collaboration and Project Planning: Work with Product Development, Product Management, Research, and Customer Operations to translate business requirements into technical solutions. Estimate your work and flag where problem definitions need clarification, support customers on escalated technical issues, and look for ways to improve development workflows and tooling.

What You’ll Bring – Must Have:

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or software engineering. Additional education or background in a related engineering or science discipline, such as engineering, mathematics, or physics, is an asset. An equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience will be considered.
• A minimum of three years of professional software development experience building single-page application SaaS products, with solid professional depth in either Python back-end or React with TypeScript front-end work, working knowledge of the other, and a genuine interest in developing across the full stack.
• Proven success in a small company, working remotely and across team boundaries.
• A demonstrated history of producing clean, well-architected, and maintainable code and API endpoints, along with proven experience with SQL, relational databases, and ORM layers.
• Comfort with Linux and the command line, plus exposure to DevOps practices such as infrastructure as code, package management, CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and monitoring and alerting, together with an interest in defensive coding and defence in depth.

What You’ll Bring – Preferred:

• Familiarity with strongly typed or object-oriented languages, time-series data, and the Python scientific computing stack such as NumPy and pandas.
• Familiarity with elements of our current stack: React Query, Vite, Playwright, i18next, ECharts, Matplotlib, Plotly on the front end; SQLAlchemy, Postgres, TimescaleDB on the back end; Ansible, Podman, HAProxy, and Terraform/OpenTofu, Yarn, uv for infrastructure and package management; and GitLab and Claude Code for development tooling.

What You Know & How You Work:

You can design and build software with growing independence, including work that spans more than one system or component, and you can diagnose and resolve difficult technical problems independently or with the team. You explain technical trade-offs clearly to both technical and non-technical colleagues, in writing and in conversation. You give and receive constructive code review, and you support newer team members as your experience grows. You collaborate and make sound decisions when requirements are incomplete, and you have good judgement about what to decide independently and what to escape. You communicate openly and often in a remote team, asking questions early rather than working around a problem quietly.

What We Look For In All Team Members:

At Delta-X Research, we care just as much about how you work as what you know. Across every role and function, we look for people who bring curiosity, integrity, and a collaborative spirit to the team. Here’s what matters to us:

• A learning mindset. You don’t need to have all the answers, just a willingness to ask great questions, seek out feedback, and keep growing.
• Respect and inclusion. We value diverse perspectives and create space for everyone to contribute meaningfully. Discrimination of any kind has no place here.
• Team-first thinking. You know when to take the lead and when to support. You collaborate with care and communicate clearly.
• Accountability and follow‑through. You take ownership of your work and follow through on commitments, even when things get complex.
• Clarity over ego. We care more about solving the problem than about who’s right. If something isn’t working, you speak up, and you’re open when others do the same.
• Care for the craft. Whether it’s code, content, analysis, or customer service, you take pride in the quality and usefulness of what you produce.
• A practical sense of humour. We work hard and take our mission seriously, but we also know the value of a good laugh and a well-placed GIF.
