In-house Interior Designer and Decorator for a Brooklyn real estate firm, working directly with ownership to design, furnish, and finish spaces. Day to day: translating the owner's vision into instructions for architects and contractors, reviewing construction quality on site, sourcing furniture and decor, and managing smaller projects within approved scope and budget.
About the Role
Bushburg is seeking a hands-on Interior Designer and Decorator to work closely with ownership on design and decorating projects. This person will develop design recommendations, translate ownership’s vision and approved decisions into clear instructions for architects and contractors, and follow each detail through construction, furnishing, and final installation.
The ideal candidate combines strong design judgment with practical execution. They should be comfortable presenting options for ownership’s approval, taking direction, visiting active construction sites, and independently managing smaller projects within approved scope and budgets.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with ownership to understand the intended look and function of each space, recommend options, secure approvals, and carry out approved design decisions.
- Communicate design direction to architects, contractors, and vendors using reference images, selections, marked-up drawings, and written instructions.
- Review plans, elevations, finish schedules, samples, and shop drawings for consistency with approved design intent; flag discrepancies for resolution.
- Walk construction sites to review finish quality, placement, dimensions, and workmanship. Document issues with photos and track corrections through completion.
- Manage smaller interior design and decorating projects, including measurements, layouts, material selections, budgets, schedules, and installation.
- Source furniture, rugs, art, lighting, window treatments, and accessories; present options with pricing and lead times.
- Coordinate purchasing, deliveries, installers, substitutions, damaged items, and returns within approved budgets.
- Walk completed spaces, identify finishing needs, and oversee furniture placement, styling, and final punch-list items.
- Maintain organized records of approvals, specifications, orders, budgets, and open items; communicate progress and decisions needed.
