Marcurius is a people-first, execution-focused organization building a high-performing team of engineers, technical specialists, and operators. This role offers a unique opportunity to shape and develop the company's HR function, establish scalable people processes, and work closely with leadership to support a rapidly growing defense technology business. As HR Manager, you will play a key role in building a strong organizational culture, ensuring HR compliance, supporting employees and managers, and creating the people infrastructure needed for Marcurius's continued growth and long-term success.
Role Overview
Marcurius is seeking a hands-on, execution-driven HR Manager to lead and scale our day-to-day US People operations. In this role, you will partner directly with leadership, functional managers, and external partners to build practical, compliant, and mission-focused HR processes that support our growing engineering, manufacturing, and operational teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Cooperate with the recruitment team, manage job descriptions, structured selection, approved offers, onboarding and offboarding for technical, manufacturing and business roles.
- Maintain employment records, Form I-9 processes, work-authorization verification and retention schedules; coordinate E-Verify where applicable.
- Advise managers on performance, attendance, conduct and employee relations. Conduct impartial investigations, document evidence and escalate sensitive decisions to leadership and counsel.
- Administer compensation reviews, benefits, leave and payroll changes with Finance and the appointed provider; verify approvals and resolve discrepancies.
- Apply relevant federal, state and local requirements, including wage and hour rules, equal employment opportunity, disability accommodations and protected leave where applicable.
- Maintain policies and manager guidance. Track employment-law changes with counsel and translate them into approved, workable procedures.
- Coordinate role competence, induction and training records. Confirm required manager, EHS and IT approvals before personnel begin restricted work or receive access.
- Support workforce planning, retention, succession and manager development. Report headcount, vacancies, turnover, training completion and outstanding people risks.
- Protect employee and applicant information through restricted access, accurate records and approved retention and disposal arrangements.
- Coordinate personnel-security and contract-related workforce requirements with Compliance and IT; verify applicability before adding screening or hiring restrictions.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent practical professional experience).
- 5+ years of progressive US HR generalist experience, with proven capability in employee relations and independently advising managers.
- Strong hands-on knowledge of US labor standards, wage and hour compliance (FLSA), leave administration, accommodations, and confidential recordkeeping.
- Practical experience managing onboarding workflows and working with HRIS, payroll, and benefits administration platforms.
- Sound judgment, strong investigative skills, and the ability to handle sensitive situations with discretion and professionalism.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with comfort operating autonomously in a fast-paced technical, manufacturing, or defense-oriented environment.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
Preferred Experience
- HR professional certification (e.g., SHRM-CP / SHRM-SCP or HRCI PHR / SPHR).
- Prior HR experience within Defense, Aerospace, Hardware/Engineering, or manufacturing environments.
- Specific knowledge of Florida state employment regulations and multi-state compliance.
- Experience supporting workforce screening, security clearance alignment, or export-controlled (ITAR/EAR) work environments.
Work Environment
Primarily onsite at Marcurius facilities in Clearwater, Florida, with direct work in workshops, vessels, docks, and field-testing environments. The role supports prototype development, electrical integration, and sea-trial preparation in a fast-paced setting with changing priorities and close cooperation across engineering, software, operations, and test teams.
