Job Title: Head of Marketing & Growth – B2B SaaS
Reporting to: CEO and Founder
Experience: 5+
Salary Range: 40.000- 60.000 Euro yearly gross salary
Location: The role is fully remote but we meet weekly as a team in Milan or Bologna; candidates within easy reach of either city have an edge.
Introduction
We are hiring a Head of Marketing & Growth for a B2B SaaS product in the media and publishing space.
ICP: Publisher-Editors running 10–20 person newsrooms on WordPress.
Focus: GTM strategy, demand generation, product marketing, and pipeline creation in an early-stage B2B SaaS environment.
Our core differentiator: no CMS migration, no vendor lock-in, we sit in front of the CMS the publisher already has.
Newsrooms are drowning in fragmented tools, outdated workflows, and editorial burnout. We have built the antidote: a Newsroom OS. It’s an editorial experience layer that sits on top of any existing infrastructure (starting with WordPress) and gives journalists a fast, focused, joyful writing environment.
Joynalist is a B2B SaaS startup incubated by Atex. We have a validated product, a defined ICP, a reference customer programme already live, and a clear GTM thesis. What we do not yet have is a go-to-market engine. This is a first marketing hire / zero-to-one role. You will build the GTM strategy, positioning, demand generation, and sales pipeline from scratch.
Joining at this stage means joining as a co-founder: you will carry that title, shape the company’s direction from day one, and hold meaningful equity in what you help build. This is not a role for someone who wants to manage an existing growth function or hand work off to an agency. You will be writing the first cold email, building the first landing page, and closing the first deals yourself.
Responsibilities
As our Head of Marketing & Growth, you are the first and sole owner of everything that touches acquisition, pipeline, brand, and retention. This is a hands-on, zero-to-one role; you’ll be building the machine, not managing one.
- Define and own Joynalist’s go-to-market strategy: ICP segmentation, positioning, and messaging framework. This is your first deliverable — before any campaign runs, the story needs to be right. Your core differentiator: Joynalist requires no CMS migration and no vendor lock-in. Make sure every Publisher-Editor who feels this pain knows it.
- Design and execute a marketing-led acquisition strategy targeting Publisher-Editors running 10–20 person newsrooms on WordPress, via targeted LinkedIn and email sequences leading with editorial insight; content seeded through niche media newsletters and publications; partnerships with WordPress agencies; and referral mechanics designed to amplify peer recommendations.
- Leverage the WordPress ecosystem: design creative distribution plays targeting the millions of sites already on WP, turning a common infrastructure into our biggest acquisition channel.
- Own the end-to-end sales funnel: from lead generation and qualification to sales-assisted closing, you’ll work directly with prospects and feed insights back into the product roadmap.
- Define and consistently articulate the Joynalist brand voice: we’re not selling software features, we’re selling editorial sanity. You need to be able to write this narrative compellingly across every channel.
- Lay the groundwork for a PLG model as we expand into smaller publishers: self-service onboarding, in-product activation, and referral mechanics. This is phase 2, but design for it from day one.
- Track, measure, and obsess over CAC, LTV, activation rates, and churn; use that data to prioritize where to focus next.
- Collaborate with the Chief Evangelist to ensure growth initiatives reinforce Joynalist’s authority and credibility within the journalism community.
What success looks like in your first 12 months
- You've built our outbound engine from zero and landed the first 20-30 Tier 2 publisher accounts, validating our GTM thesis with real revenue.
- The Joynalist brand has a clear, recognizable voice across our site, content, and outbound; when an editor sees our name, they know what we stand for.
- The self-service onboarding flow is live and you've run enough activation experiments to know what our PLG motion will look like at scale.
- You have shipped a positioning document and messaging playbook the whole team uses, and it has measurably improved conversion from first contact to demo.
- You can tell us, with data, our CAC, LTV, payback period, and activation rates; you have a prioritized roadmap for improving each.
Qualifications
- 5+ years in B2B SaaS marketing, in product marketing, demand generation, or a hybrid role that spanned both. You’ve owned a full GTM motion or funnel end-to-end, not just contributed to one.
- Experience developing positioning, messaging, and ICP frameworks from scratch — ideally at an early-stage B2B SaaS startup where you were the first marketing hire.
- Strong analytical skills: you’re comfortable in GA4, Mixpanel, HubSpot (or equivalent), and you make decisions with data, not gut alone.
- Ability to set up and manage your own stack (e.g., Apollo/Lemlist for outbound, Webflow/Framer for landing pages, Zapier for automation) without needing a dev team for every experiment.
- Excellent writing and storytelling ability; you can translate a complex product value proposition into a message that resonates with a time-pressed editor.
- Comfortable operating in a high-trust, niche vertical: you understand that in journalism, reputation and relationships matter as much as conversion rates.
- Bonus: experience or genuine interest in the media and publishing sector (media tech, publishing tech, or newsroom tools) is a strong plus.
