Full-Stack Engineer --- Industrial AI
Barcelona | Full-time | Hybrid
coatingAI is looking for a Full-Stack Engineer to join our growing team and help build the software powering the next generation of intelligent industrial coating systems.
We are a technology startup combining AI, software, 3D measurement, and industrial automation to make powder-coating processes smarter, more efficient, and more sustainable.
You'll work across products such as CoPilot, Blueprint, FlightPath, and customer-specific industrial applications, building technology that moves from code to real factories.
This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys ownership, solving complex problems, and working in a fast-moving environment where your decisions have a direct impact on the product and the company.
What we're looking for
- Engineering degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Telecommunications, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 2--5 years of professional software engineering experience.
- Strong experience with Python and Django.
- Professional experience with Vue, React, or another modern frontend framework.
- Solid knowledge of JavaScript or TypeScript, HTML, and CSS.
- Experience designing and building REST APIs and relational database schemas.
- Familiarity with PostgreSQL, Docker, Git, and automated testing.
- Professional proficiency in English is required, both written and spoken.
- Ability to take ownership of a feature and move it from an idea to a reliable production solution.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a pragmatic approach to debugging complex systems.
- Comfortable working in a startup environment where priorities can evolve and engineers are expected to take initiative.
- Good communication skills and the ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams.
Valuable additional experience
You don't need to know everything below, but experience in some of these areas would be valuable:
- Vue 3, TypeScript, Vuetify, Pinia, and Vite.
- Celery, Redis, pytest, and Django REST Framework.
- Experience with other Python backend frameworks, such as FastAPI or Flask.
- GCP, Vertex AI, AWS, or containerized cloud deployments.
- MQTT, WebSockets, PLCs, IoT, or industrial automation.
- NumPy, pandas, scikit-learn, PyTorch, or production ML systems.
- 3D visualization or computer vision.
- Manufacturing, robotics, industrial software, or Industry 4.0 applications.
- Experience using AI-assisted or agentic coding tools to plan, implement, review, and debug software changes, such as Claude Code, ChatGPT, or similar tools.
- Good judgment in reviewing AI-generated code, validating assumptions, and maintaining code quality rather than relying on automated output blindly.
Why join coatingAI?
At coatingAI, you won't be working on another generic SaaS platform. You'll build software that interacts with real machines, real production lines, and real industrial processes.
You'll have the opportunity to:
- Have real ownership. Take responsibility for meaningful parts of the product and influence how we build them.
- See your work in the real world. Your software will be deployed in factories and used directly in production environments.
- Work across the full technology stack. From frontend applications and cloud infrastructure to AI models, IoT devices, and industrial systems.
- Solve unusual engineering problems. Work at the intersection of SaaS, AI, hardware, 3D technology, and manufacturing.
- Help shape a growing technology company. Influence our engineering culture, architecture, processes, and products as we scale.
- Make an environmental impact. Help manufacturers reduce powder waste, energy consumption, and the environmental footprint of coating processes.
- Stay close to the product. Work with short feedback loops and direct communication between engineering, customers, and the people making product decisions.
What we offer
- Private medical insurance.
- 30 days of holiday per year.
- Hybrid work in Barcelona, with up to 3 remote-working days per week.
A high level of autonomy and responsibility.
- Direct exposure to product decisions, customers, and the challenges we are solving.
- The opportunity to grow with the company and take on increasing technical ownership.
