About Us
Campfire is an AI-native ERP system. Finance teams at fast-growing companies and the fractional CFO firms that serve them use us to close their books in hours (not weeks), recognize revenue, run AP and AR, and consolidate entities. Ember, our AI, works on the ledger alongside them. We came out of Y Combinator (S'23) and raised a $65M Series B led by Accel and Ribbit Capital.
About the Role
As a Software Engineer at Campfire, you will own real product surface area from design through production. You will build across our Python/Django backend and our Next.js/React frontend, in a product where correctness is a non-negotiable: the general ledger, revenue recognition, invoicing, bills, bank and payment integrations, and the financial close. You will work close to customers' needs and see your work in production in days (not quarters).
What You'll Do
Own features end to end: scope the problem, write a short design, build it, ship it and monitor it.
Build backend services in Python/Django (DRF, Celery, PostgreSQL) for multi-tenant accounting workflows.
Build fast, polished interfaces in Next.js, React and Tailwind for dense, data-heavy workflows such as tables, ledgers, reconciliation and reporting.
Integrate with banks, payment processors, ERPs and CRMs, and keep those integrations reliable.
Protect data correctness: ledger integrity, closed periods, idempotent jobs, safe migrations, and performance as customers scale.
Write well-tested code and review teammates' work.
Mentor junior engineers: pair with them, give thoughtful code review feedback, and help them grow into owning larger pieces of the product.
Use AI coding tools in your daily work and build features on top of Ember.
What We're Looking For
5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
Strong Python (Django preferred) and PostgreSQL skills, including schema design, query tuning and migrations on large tables.
Solid React/Next.js and Tailwind experience; you are comfortable across the stack, with real depth on one side.
Experience owning production systems: debugging incidents, fixing root causes, and standing behind what you ship.
Good judgment on tradeoffs, and the ability to turn ambiguous problems into shippable pieces with little structure.
Clear written and verbal communication, and the drive to take projects to the finish line.
Nice to Have
Experience in fintech, accounting, payments or ERP software, or an understanding of double-entry bookkeeping.
Experience with Celery or other async task systems, AWS, and multi-tenant architectures.
Experience building with LLMs or agents.
Experience at an early-stage startup.
Benefits
We pay 100% of your health, dental, and vision premiums and 80% for your dependents.
We cater lunch every day, reimburse your commute costs (up to $200/mo), and offer a 401(k).
You also get unlimited PTO and two weeks a year to work remotely from wherever you like.
