Full Stack Engineer - AI focused - #1676

About the Role

We are looking for a Full Stack Software Engineer with an AI focus to join our technology team in building secure, scalable and user-centric digital solutions that deliver meaningful outcomes for citizens, businesses and public officers.

You will work across the full software development lifecycle — from solution design and architecture through development, testing, deployment and production support. You will also play a key role in applying Artificial Intelligence, Generative AI and Machine Learning to enhance digital services, automate processes and enable data-driven decision making.

This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys solving complex problems, building production-grade applications and translating emerging AI capabilities into practical solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Full Stack Engineering

Design, develop and maintain scalable web applications and digital services across the front end and back end.

Build intuitive, accessible and responsive user interfaces using modern web technologies.

Develop secure, reliable and well-documented APIs and backend services.

Design and work with relational and NoSQL databases, data models and integration services.

Integrate applications with internal systems, government platforms and third-party services.

Write clean, maintainable, testable and production-ready code.

Participate in code reviews, technical design discussions and engineering best practices.

Troubleshoot production issues and continuously improve application performance, reliability and scalability.

AI / Generative AI

Design and develop AI-powered features and applications using technologies such as LLMs, Generative AI, RAG, AI agents and Machine Learning.

Integrate commercial and/or open-source AI models into production applications through APIs and model-serving platforms.

Build AI workflows involving prompt engineering, retrieval, embeddings, vector databases and knowledge bases.

Evaluate AI solutions for accuracy, reliability, latency, cost and user experience.

Implement appropriate safeguards for AI applications, including data protection, access control, human oversight and responsible AI practices.

Prototype emerging AI technologies and assess their potential for government use cases.

Work with data, product and business stakeholders to identify opportunities where AI can improve operational efficiency or citizen services.

Cloud, DevSecOps & Engineering Excellence

Develop and deploy applications using modern cloud and container technologies.

Implement CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, monitoring and observability.

Apply secure software development practices throughout the development lifecycle.

Ensure solutions comply with relevant government security, data protection, architecture and technology standards.

Contribute to system architecture, technical documentation and operational readiness.

Monitor application health, performance and security and participate in incident resolution.

Collaboration

Work closely with product managers, UX designers, data scientists, cybersecurity teams and business stakeholders.

Translate business and user requirements into practical technical solutions.

Communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the development of engineering standards and practices.

Requirements

Technical Skills

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or a related discipline.

Strong software engineering experience developing production-grade applications.

Proficiency in one or more backend languages such as Java, Python, C#, Go or Node.js/TypeScript.

Strong experience with modern frontend frameworks such as React, Angular or Vue.js.

Good understanding of RESTful APIs, microservices, event-driven architectures and system integration.

Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL or MS SQL, and familiarity with NoSQL technologies.

Experience with Git and modern software development practices, including automated testing and code review.

Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud.

Experience with Docker and/or Kubernetes is advantageous.

AI / Data Skills
