Frontend Software Engineer

About Pi

Pi is building an agentic product security platform for teams that need to secure software at the speed they build it.

Modern development is accelerating, but security knowledge is still scattered across code, tickets, documents, incidents, reviews, and the people who remember why decisions were made. Pi turns that context into institutional security memory, helping teams triage faster, remediate in context, prevent repeat vulnerability classes, and embed security guardrails where engineering work already happens.

We are building for a future where security is not a blocker at the end of the development process. It is part of how software gets designed, reviewed, shipped, and improved.

About The Role

We are looking for a Frontend Software Engineer with 5 or more years of experience building modern, high-quality web applications. This role requires working in person at our San Francisco office five days per week.

You will help build the product experience for Pi’s agentic security platform, turning complex security workflows into fast, intuitive, and trustworthy interfaces. You will work closely with product, design, backend engineering, and security experts to build the surfaces engineers and security teams use to understand risk, investigate findings, review context, and take action.

This role is ideal for someone who cares deeply about product quality, frontend craft, interaction design, and building polished interfaces for complex technical products.

What You’ll Do

• Build and maintain production-grade frontend features using TypeScript, React, and Next.js.

• Create fast, responsive, accessible, and polished user experiences for complex security and developer workflows.

• Build product surfaces for findings, investigations, remediation workflows, dashboards, forms, tables, filters, and detail views.

• Use React Server Components and modern app routing patterns to deliver performant, maintainable product experiences.

• Develop reusable UI patterns using design tokens, design systems, and accessible component primitives.

• Integrate frontend experiences with type-safe client/server data access patterns and modern query management.

• Manage UI, application, and URL state in a clean, predictable, and maintainable way.

• Build robust forms and validation flows for high-trust product interactions.

• Create complex tables and data-heavy views that remain usable, performant, and easy to reason about.

• Use component development, visual regression, and frontend testing tools to improve quality and consistency.

• Partner with product and design to turn ambiguous customer needs into simple, effective workflows.

• Participate in code reviews and help raise the quality bar for frontend architecture, testing, accessibility, and maintainability.

What We’re Looking For

• 5 or more years of professional software engineering experience, with a strong focus on frontend development.

• Strong proficiency with TypeScript, React, and modern frontend architecture.

• Experience building applications with Next.js or similar full-stack React frameworks.

• Comfort working with server-rendered, client-rendered, and hybrid application patterns.

• Familiarity with design systems, reusable component patterns, and accessible UI primitives.

• Experience with modern data-fetching, query management, and type-safe API patterns.

• Strong understanding of forms, validation, routing, and URL-driven state.

• Experience building complex tables, dashboards, workflows, or other data-heavy user interfaces.

• Experience writing frontend tests across unit, component, integration, and end-to-end levels.

• Strong debugging skills and attention to product detail.

• Ability to work in a fast-moving startup environment with ownership, autonomy, and good judgment.

Technologies We Use

• TypeScript

• React

• Next.js App Router

• React Server Components

• tRPC

• Storybook

• Chromatic

• Vitest

• React Testing Library

• Playwright

Nice To Have

• Experience building security, developer tools, infrastructure, or data-heavy enterprise products.

• Experience with type-safe API frameworks.

• Experience with component-driven development and visual regression testing.

• Consistent history of delivering complex UI projects for a SaaS product.

• Experience in fast-paced high growth startups.

• Consistent history of spending multiple years in each role making a big impact.

• Strong product sense and ability to make thoughtful UX tradeoffs.

Success In This Role Looks Like

• Complex security workflows become simple, fast, and intuitive for users.

• Product surfaces are polished, accessible, performant, and reliable.

• Frontend patterns become easier for the team to reuse and extend.

• Engineers can move quickly without creating fragile UI or inconsistent experiences.

• The product helps customers understand risk, act faster, and prevent the same security issues from recurring.
