Frontend Engineering Lead

Our Mission

At Omnea, we’re reinventing how enterprise businesses operate, starting with the most painful parts: procurement – where a single purchase can drag on for months, trigger 50+ emails, and pull in Finance, Legal, Security, and IT just to get something approved.

We’ve raised $75M from Khosla Ventures, Insight Partners, and Accel to change that. Our AI-native platform connects every person, step, and system so buying is fast, safe, and efficient – one place to request, automated approvals and renewals, real-time supplier risk, and complete spend visibility.

The opportunity is massive. Every enterprise on the planet has this problem and nobody has solved it. We’ve 10x’d ARR to double-digit millions in 18 months and are trusted by global enterprises like Spotify, MongoDB, Monzo, and Albertsons. We’re now the 4th fastest growing startup in Europe & the Sunday Times' #1 Best Medium Sized Tech Company To Work for.

Our team previously scaled Tessian (cybersecurity tech, backed by Sequoia, Balderton, Accel, acquired post-Series C), and our team includes ex-founders operators who’ve grown unicorns, shipped world-class products, and executed at the highest levels. You’ll work alongside leaders like Ben, Abs, Sabrina, and Rebe.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for a Frontend Lead Engineer to own the front end at Omnea.

Our design system is growing fast, our front-end architecture is becoming more complex, and right now ownership of these things is distributed. You'd be the person who takes this to the next level.

You'll work across every product team. You'll own the design system, own the front-end architecture, and set the standard for how we build interfaces. We're a tight-knit group of ambitious builders who hold the bar high. It took over 10,000 interviews to hire our first 50 Omneans. Over the next year, our engineering team will double in size, our enterprise customer base will grow from ~180 to 300+, and revenue will triple. The front end has to scale with it.

This is a craft role with real leverage. Almost every engineer at Omnea ships front end. What you build determines how well they do it.

Procurement is a harder interface problem than it sounds. Approval workflows that branch and re-route, dense tables people live in all day, intake forms that adapt to what someone is buying. Getting this right is the difference between software people tolerate and software people actually like using.

What Can You Expect On Our Engineering Team?

• Join a Skilled Team. Become part of one of Europe's fastest-growing software companies, working alongside experienced full-stack product engineers and product designers from top technology businesses and startups.

• Own the Design System. You'll own our design system outright: components, patterns, tokens, documentation, and adoption. You'll partner closely with Design to turn intent into reusable, high-quality primitives.

• Own the Front-End Architecture. Deployment strategy, performance, build tooling, and the conventions everyone else follows. You'll set the direction rather than inherit it, working alongside the engineers and designers closest to each surface rather than owning it in isolation.

• Leverage Across Every Team. You'll work with all of our engineering teams on their most front-end-heavy projects. The work you do multiplies across the whole org.

• A Real Design Partnership. Every cross-functional team at Omnea has a dedicated Product Manager and Product Designer. You'll be the connective tissue between design intent and what actually ships, and the person designers come to when they want to know what's possible.

• Work with Modern Technology. TypeScript everywhere, React and Next.js on the front end, and Meticulous for automated visual regression testing, so you can refactor the design system without fear. Behind it sits Postgres and AWS serverless infrastructure (Lambda, DynamoDB, and EventBridge), managed through Pulumi and deployed via GitHub Actions, with Datadog for observability.

• AI-Native Development. AI is core to how we build. Engineers use Claude Code and agentic workflows every day to write, review, and ship code faster, and our product is itself built on AI agents that automate complex procurement workflows.

• Continuous Delivery. We deploy small, incremental changes to production multiple times per day, enabling rapid iteration and fast customer feedback loops.

• Collaboration and Autonomy. We operate as a high-trust team where individuals are expected to take ownership while collaborating closely to solve difficult problems.

• Customers at the Center. We regularly engage directly with customers to understand their problems, gather feedback, and ensure we're building products that create genuine value.

About You

• You're deep in React. You've built complex, production React applications and you understand the framework properly, not just the API surface. Rendering behaviour, state, performance, and where things break at scale.

• You've owned front-end infrastructure. Rendering strategies, build tooling, bundle performance, and the architectural decisions underneath a large application.

• You've built or owned a design system. Not just consumed one. You've made the calls on component APIs, driven adoption across teams, and dealt with the messy reality of migration and versioning.

• You have taste. You care how things look and feel, you notice when something is only 90% right, and you can hold a genuine conversation with designers rather than just implementing tickets.

• You know CSS deeply. Layout, styling architecture, and building interfaces that hold up across breakpoints, themes, and edge cases. You treat accessibility and motion as part of the craft rather than a checklist at the end.

• You're a strong engineer first. Your depth and your interest sit in the front end, and that's the point of this role. But you're fluent in TypeScript generally and comfortable working beyond the browser when a problem calls for it.

• You're motivated by impact. You care about what your work actually achieves, not just how it's built. You thrive with the autonomy to make meaningful decisions and take real ownership of outcomes.

• You're a team builder. You're excited by maximising team performance, whether that means learning from others or taking the time to explain, give feedback, and level up those around you.

• You're comfortable with ambiguity. This role is new. Its shape will be partly yours to define, and you're happy tackling problems without a predefined solution, backed by an experienced team.

Nice-to-Haves

• You've worked at design-led companies or somewhere with a genuinely high bar for interface quality.

• You've performed exceptionally at something else, be it academics, sport, or work. You've gone above and beyond the norm.

• You love engineering. It's more than a job. You've contributed to open source or worked on side projects just because you enjoy it.

Interview Process

Before applying, we strongly encourage you to spend a few minutes in our R&D Candidate Hub. It covers our engineering culture, ways of working, interview process, tech environment, and what it's like to build at Omnea.

>> R&D Candidate Hub:

While this is a front-end specialist role, we expect a core level understanding of TypeScript beyond the browser, so you should be comfortable writing general TypeScript in an exercise that will feel more full-stack than front-end. We assess this as part of our pair programming stage, which is the same standard exercise we run for every engineer. Beyond that baseline, we're looking for genuine depth in React, front-end architecture, and design systems.

The process varies slightly by level but generally includes:

1. Initial screening call with the Talent team (30 mins - remote)

2. Pair programming interview in TypeScript (1 hour - remote)

3. Onsite Interviews: front-end system design , engineering culture, engineering leadership interviews (3 hours - in-person)

4. Final interview with our CEO - meet Ben Freeman (CEO & Founder) - 45 mins remote

We'll assess level throughout and align interview stages accordingly.

We're proud to support visa sponsorship for candidates who need it.

At Omnea, we embrace diversity. To build a product that's loved by everyone, we're best served by a team with all sorts of backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives. We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't quite match the full job spec! And regardless of your race, religion, colour, gender, or anything else! If you think you could be a good fit for Omnea, please reach out.

A few things to note:

• We offer competitive geo-localised benefits, and you can check out our UK Benefits Package here and our US Benefits Package here.

• We work Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays in-person at our offices. At this early stage of our company life-cycle it's important to us that we get this together-time, and you can read more about why we believe this is a winning move here

• We're commercial, ambitious and we don't pretend otherwise! We're actively seeking folks looking to make the most of a career-defining opportunity, with the hunger to be part of building something really impressive. You can see our values here and our Omnea Future Founder's fund here!

• We sometimes use AI note-takers to help us transcribe interview notes, so we can be more present in your interview. If you'd like to opt out of us using automatic transcribers, please note this in the free text field in your application, otherwise we'll take your application as confirmation that you're happy for us to use notetakers (whether added to video calls or in the background).

We are proud to be recognised for both our culture and product, and we are just getting started. Join us as we grow!
