We’re working with a fast-growing healthcare AI company building AI-powered solutions and integrations for healthcare providers across Latin America.

The company is building a data platform that processes healthcare data at high volume, transforming streaming and batch data into FHIR, the international standard for health data, and making it accessible to hospitals, clinics, and partners through a unified interface.

The Challenge

As a Founding Engineer - Data Platform, you’ll design and build the platform end to end.

This is a highly autonomous 0→1 role combining hands-on backend engineering, data infrastructure, product thinking, and client-facing technical work.

The platform needs to scale with growing data volumes, support customers across multiple countries, and operate as a product that clients can easily adopt.

You’ll work closely with the founding team, PM, internal teams, and client IT organizations across markets including Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Argentina, and future markets.

What You'll Do

• Design and build backend services and event-driven architecture handling millions of records
• Build and scale streaming and batch data pipelines
• Work with the PM to shape the platform into a scalable product that clients can easily adopt
• Meet with client IT teams to understand their databases, cloud environments, VPNs, systems, and integration requirements
• Act as the technical engineering contact for client integrations
• Explain the value and technical capabilities of the platform to technical stakeholders
• Help build the internal analytics platform used by business teams
• Identify opportunities for improvement and proactively drive solutions
• Build systems with multiple LATAM markets in mind
• Travel occasionally to meet clients in person

Must Have

• 7+ years of hands-on software engineering experience
• Strong backend engineering experience with TypeScript/JavaScript and/or Python
• Deep understanding of event-driven architecture and event bus patterns
• Production experience with PostgreSQL and MongoDB at scale
• Working knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes
• Experience building products or systems from 0→1
• Strong hands-on mindset — you still write and ship production code
• Experience working in startups or strong engineering teams with ownership of real outcomes
• Enough frontend knowledge to handle small frontend tasks independently
• Comfortable working directly with technical clients and stakeholders
• Experience gathering requirements, running technical meetings, and presenting solutions
• Experience using AI coding tools in your daily work
• Professional Portuguese and English
• Based in Latin America, ideally São Paulo

Nice to Have

• Professional Spanish
• Experience with FHIR, HL7, or other healthcare interoperability standards
• Experience building integration platforms, public APIs, or developer-facing products
• Solutions Engineering or Technical Consulting experience with enterprise or regulated clients
• Experience mentoring or leading engineers
• Rust experience
