Founding Engineer (all genders)

Gynaecological care the way it's supposed to be: Personalised, easy to reach, effective.

Women are diagnosed on average four years later than men, across 770 different diseases. They spend 25 % more of their lives in poor health. That is the gender health gap, and science says two things keep it open: too little access to specialists in women's health, and far too little research on women in the first place.

femote works on both.

Step One: we turn ordinary statutory gynaecological practices into digital care champions. So that the specialists we do have can care for more patients properly, within the resources they are given.

Step Two: we turn generalist doctors into specialists by equipping them with clinical diagnostic and decision support built specifically for women's health, trained on data collected by Step One.

Where we stand

• Supported by leaders of the German gynaecological medical associations
• Backed by industry angels from pharmaceuticals and medical publishing
• Innovation grant secured from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy
• Part of the Lausitz Model Region, giving us deep integration into the statutory system and reach to women regardless of their spending power
• MVP in pilot phase with real practices (Stack: Flutter, Supabase, Postgres. Up for debate once you join)
• Pre-seed stage, with funding in place to bring you on

Tasks

We are looking for our first engineer to build femote's product and shape the technical foundation it grows on.

As our founding engineer, you will build our first SaaS product, a patient app and a professional interface, under European General Product Safety Regulation guidelines in the first year while we prepare for medical device certification in year two.

Every case we capture is structured so it can carry clinical evidence later, which is what makes algorithmic and decision-support features possible at all. You will not build those alone, but you need to direct that work, and the architecture that makes it possible has to be laid now.

Requirements

We value smartness, humility and the ability to learn and adapt quickly over hard skills on paper. Please apply, even if you don't tick all the boxes.

What you have done

• Experience running a SaaS product from building to shipping to operating in production
• Strong data modelling and processing, including consent, provenance and pseudonymisation, so captured data can lawfully support clinical evidence and model training later
• Bonus: experience building algorithmic or AI-enabled features
• Bonus: experience building in a regulated field (MDR, AI Act, or similar)
• Bonus: German speaking, though not required

How you work

• You ship fast without lowering the bar. Short iteration cycles and pragmatic solutions, with engineering practices solid enough to stand up to a notified body.
• You set the pattern, not just the code. Everything the first engineer does becomes the default for everyone after. You write it down, you teach it, and you build with that in mind.
• You do not think in taboos. You will be reading about discharge, bleeding and pelvic pain at nine in the morning and building interfaces for it. If that is awkward for you, this is not your role.
• You want to understand why we are doing this in gynaecology. You do not have to arrive as an expert in women's health, and we are happy to offer a steep learning curve. The curiosity has to be yours.
• You are reflective. You take feedback without putting armour on, and you say when you are stuck rather than when it is already too late.

Benefits

• Meaningful equity as hurdle shares or an instrument with equivalent tax treatment.
• Genuine ownership of the technical direction
• Full-time, with flexible working hours
• Room to grow into the CTO role: owning medical device certification, security and data handling, the engineering team you hire around you, and representing femote's technical direction to regulators, partners and investors.

Our hiring process

1. Conversation with Frederike (45 min): what we are building, what you have built, and whether this is the right fit for both sides.
2. Meet the team: Tabea and Insa, the people you will work with every day.
3. Technical deep dive with one of our technical advisors: architecture, data modelling and how you would approach our product.
4. Offer.

From application to offer takes no longer than six weeks.

Who you will work with

We are a small team, and between us we have treated patients, built data infrastructure and products for enterprise clients, and studied how health systems fail people at scale.

Our team is technical enough that you don't have to translate engineering reality into business language.

Frederike Kugland, Founder: Quit her job for yeast infections. Built a company around it.
WHU graduate turned developer. Ex-Managing Partner at tech consultancy Pandata. Learned to code because she hated Excel, now runs product, fundraising and sales. Technical enough to be your sparring partner but too busy to interfere with your work. Doesn't shy away from founder-led marketing, discussing her intimate health on the Gyncast Podcast.

Dr. med. Tabea Siebler, Medical Lead: Doctor. Polyglot. One exam room isn't enough for her.
Certified gynaecologist, speaks 6 languages, not as a Duolingo streak but to serve her patients. Implemented a new consultation hour for Female Genital Mutilation and Cutting at her last clinic. Currently studying Public Health at the London School of Hygiene because treating one patient at a time wasn't enough.

Insa Deden, Software Development: Left the ward to build what was missing on it.
Trained and worked as a registered nurse in anaesthesia at University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf, then went to study health information management to work on the problems she had been living with every shift. She brings the care-delivery perspective that sits next to Tabea's clinical one: what it actually takes for software to hold up at scale in daily practice, rather than in a demo. Moving from working student to full-time.

Alongside them: a fractional CFO, regulatory and compliance support from the former Head of Regulatory at Heidelberg Engineering, and technical advisors.
