Road is a fast-growing software company active in the dynamic electric driving (EV) market. We deliver the critical infrastructure that the EV charging ecosystem is built on. We do this through a purpose-built software platform, supported by our unique expertise and world-class customer service.
Road currently serves 20% of the Dutch market, and we have firmly set our sights on repeating this success internationally. We operate at the intersection of cleantech and fintech, and our mission is simple: to make EV charging effortless for everyone.
We’re looking for a Financial Controller to join our Finance team in Amsterdam.
This is a broad finance role for someone who enjoys getting into the numbers, but also wants to improve how finance works. You’ll combine financial control and reporting with planning, analysis and business partnering, while helping us build smarter and more scalable processes.
You’ll work closely with colleagues across Finance, Commercial and Operations, translating financial data into meaningful insights and helping the business make better decisions.
We’re also investing in automation, data and AI across our organisation. In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to actively improve financial workflows using modern tools rather than simply maintaining existing processes.
Financial control & reporting
Help ensure high-quality and reliable financial reporting in line with Dutch GAAP and IFRS.
Develop and maintain effective internal controls and support a strong financial control environment.
Support external audits by keeping documentation audit-ready and proactively addressing potential control gaps.
Maintain a strong focus on financial accuracy, governance and continuous improvement.
Business partnering & analysis
Partner with our Commercial and Operations teams to analyse topics such as pricing, unit economics and business performance.
Translate financial and operational data into clear insights that support commercial and strategic decision-making.
Develop management reporting and dashboards that help leadership understand performance, trends and areas requiring attention.
Financial planning & analysis
Contribute to and help drive our annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting processes.
Build and maintain financial models to support long-term planning and Road’s growth ambitions.
Analyse actual performance against forecasts and help explain the key drivers behind the numbers.
Data, automation & AI
Identify manual or inefficient finance processes and look for opportunities to automate and improve them.
Work with tools and technologies such as SQL, Looker/LookML, APIs and SuiteQL to improve the quality and accessibility of financial data.
Explore practical applications of AI within financial analysis and workflows.
Apply appropriate financial judgement and controls when using automation or AI, ensuring outputs remain reliable and accurate.
A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or another relevant quantitative field.
Around 5+ years of relevant experience across areas such as FP&A, financial control, external audit or financial advisory.
A good understanding of internal controls, risk assessment and financial governance.
Strong Excel and/or Google Sheets skills, including financial modelling and more complex formulas.
Experience working with an ERP environment such as NetSuite, SAP, Oracle or a comparable platform.
Professional-level English, both written and spoken.
A curious and analytical mindset, with the confidence to challenge existing ways of working and suggest better ones.
Someone who enjoys taking ownership and working in a fast-moving, international environment.
You don’t need to tick every box, but some of the following would be a plus:
Big Four or similar audit/advisory experience, and a solid understanding of Dutch GAAP and IFRS.
Experience with data and reporting tools such as SQL, Looker, Power BI or Tableau.
Hands-on experience using automation and AI tools to improve financial processes and analysis.
A professional qualification such as CPA, CIA, ACCA or CFA, or an MBA.
Join our mission-driven organisation and work in a dynamic, international and ambitious environment. You’ll have the opportunity to take ownership, bring your expertise to the table and make a meaningful impact while continuing to develop your career.
8% pension allowance paid monthly, giving you the freedom to invest it at your discretion.
This role is entitled to the company's SAR program: you get a claim right linked to the value development of Road because success is best when shared!
We believe you have to recharge too! This is why you are entitled to our ‘unlimited holiday policy’.
All the technology and business tools to succeed.
Daily varied and healthy food options for lunch, all for free. And of course drinks at our own Road bar.
Besides working on our mission together, we like to have fun and connect with social events and team-building activities.
Personal training and development opportunities.
Referral program.
Headquarters located in one of the most dynamic and cosmopolitan cities in Europe: Amsterdam.
Kilometer allowance, a business NS subscription or a bike subscription to make your commute to the office easy.
Diverse and creative colleagues from every corner of the world.
We believe in being open-minded, challenging ourselves and continuously looking for better ways of working.
Road is transitioning from start-up to scale-up, which means introducing more structure and stronger processes without losing the ownership, pace and entrepreneurial mindset that brought us this far.
As the world scales up to meet the growing demand for EV charging, we’re ready to play our part in this once-in-a-century mobility transition.
