Field Software Engineer

About us

At THEKER, we're taking on one of the greatest challenges of the 21st century: redefining how physical work gets done in the world.

We are a robotics and AI company building intelligent, adaptable systems that solve problems traditional automation never could. From Barcelona, our mission is to create a generation-defining company leading the robotics revolution.

By joining us, you will have the chance to do the most meaningful work of your life, setting a new standard for industrial automation and driving breakthroughs with global reach, while being surrounded by a focused, talent-dense team that shares this ambition and is here to win.

We recently closed the largest robotics Series A in Europe's history, and we're looking for the top 0.01% of talent to take on that mission with us, and build the biggest company in the world.

Your role

We are looking for a Software Engineer, Robotics Deployment to take a working robotic use case from the bench to real production plants, and then own it. Our cells are built by small teams in three to six months. Once a pilot works, someone has to run it in a customer's plant and scale it to more robots and more sites. That is this role. It also frees the original developers to start the next use case.

You will inherit a Python and ROS2 system that is already built: dozens of nodes, configuration per environment, and internal packages you use through their documentation. In your first month you work next to the people who wrote it, fixing bugs and shipping small features. By month two you own subsystems like vision or metrics, join the plant installation and run the final on-site validation on your own. From month three the system is yours. You lead the scale-up, decide what gets industrialised and act as the customer's technical counterpart for the software.

This is a software role that lives in plants. Most of your work is reading code you didn't write, making small changes that respect its design and finding out why something fails on a running system. The research is done when you arrive, and you will spend real time on site. ROS2 is not a requirement. If you write solid Python and get productive fast in someone else's codebase, we'll teach you the rest.

What we're looking for

• An engineering degree (Software, Computer, Robotics, Mechatronics, Industrial, Electrical or similar) or equivalent experience, with solid day-to-day Python. You're comfortable with Git and Linux, and you write tests.

• Proven experience getting productive in code written by others: maintaining, integrating or extending an existing system.

• Structured troubleshooting. You reproduce a problem before you fix it and measure before you say it works.

• Clear written communication. Commits, work logs and handover notes are part of the job here.

• Fluent Spanish and good English, a driving licence and willingness to travel frequently to customer plants.

• Based in Barcelona or willing to relocate (100% on-site role).

Nice to have

• ROS2 experience.

• Computer vision, industrial robotics, PLCs or control systems.

• Experience deploying or supporting systems on real hardware or in production plants.

• Performance data analysis or robot simulation tools.

You'll thrive at THEKER if

• You're excited by a fast-paced and ambitious environment. The opportunity ahead of us is enormous, and we're going all in to capture it.

• You want responsibility early on, delivering at world-class standards for leading clients.

• You enjoy experimenting, iterating quickly, and embracing change as part of the learning process.

• You'd rather understand a system and make it grow than rewrite it from scratch.

Main responsibilities

• Own a robotic use case once it leaves the development team, from the bench pilot to production plants.

• Fix bugs and ship features in a large Python and ROS2 codebase, with small changes that respect its architecture.

• Diagnose issues on running systems using logs, ROS2 topics and recorded data.

• Prepare and validate plant environments, then run on-site validation and bring back a report with metrics and incidents the team can act on.

• Lead the scale-up to more robots and more plants, and decide what gets industrialised.

• Manage the use case backlog and act as the customer's technical counterpart for the software.

• Write clear change requests to the maintainers of internal packages when the fix belongs inside their code.

• Keep a written trail of status, risks and open questions so anyone can pick up where you left off.

What we offer

• Being part of a fast-growing robotics and AI company with genuine ambition, where your career can accelerate alongside us.

• The chance to own a live robotic system in real customer plants within your first months.

• A focused, talent-dense team where your work is visible and your decisions count.

• An environment where new ideas are encouraged and your contributions shape both the product and the company.

• 100% on-site work in Barcelona.

What the process looks like

1. Intro call with Martín (Chief of Staff), 30 minutes.

2. Take-home exercise in pure Python, no ROS2 needed. It takes around 4 to 6 hours of work, and you have one week to send it.

3. One-day bootcamp at our offices with the team, working on a simulated robotic cell.

4. Meet the rest of the team and founders at our offices.

These steps can be completed in about two weeks.

We're committed to equality, diversity, and inclusion. We welcome all applications regardless of background, age, gender, disability, sexual orientation, or beliefs.
