The Company

My client is one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of turnkey machinery solutions to a wide variety of industries. The company has been established for over a decade and is a privately owned family business; they have become a centre of excellence within automated packaging machinery to the FMCG industry. Due to further expansion within the British market, they have the need to recruit an additional field service engineer, with mechanical service and commissioning experience.

The role of Field Service Engineer is to install, commission and fault-find on a wide range of Labelling Machinery. A customer facing role, that is field based requiring travel to customer premises as and when required and potentially at short notice.

The role is highly technical and a background in mechanical engineering is essential, and the ability to build a strong working relationship with customers will be key to success.

Role & Responsibility

90% mechanical work, with 1 or 2 overnight stays per 3 weeks. UK wide travel.

• Diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical faults on industrial packaging machinery.
• Carry out planned preventative maintenance and servicing.
• Attend customer sites to investigate and repair machinery breakdowns.
• Install, commission and set up new packaging machinery.
• Optimise machine performance, reliability and film usage.
• Identify opportunities to improve machine efficiency and reduce operating costs.
• Provide professional technical support and guidance to customers on site.
• Complete accurate engineer service reports and provide feedback to customers and the engineering team.
• Work independently when required, while also supporting colleagues and working as part of the wider engineering team.
• Maintain a professional image and represent the company positively at all customer sites.
• Follow appropriate health and safety procedures and company standards.

Experience and Qualifications

• Time served engineer in Mechanical or equivalent
• Previous experience of the FMCG industry as well as packaging equipment preferable but not essential.
• Previous experience of field based working preferable but not essential.
• Good level of computer literacy and IT skills, and having used MS office (Outlook, Word, Excel), but also with the ability to learn new systems quickly.
• Good fault-finding capability with flexibility to consider different solutions, thinking “outside the box”.
• Full UK Driving Licence
