About this position: Field Engineer Location – Hanover, MD

Wage/Salary Range: $75k -$85k

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Field Operations and Trade Coordination
- Assist the Superintendent with daily work planning, subcontractor coordination, and communication of site expectations.
- Review work areas with subcontractor foremen to confirm access, readiness, preceding work, and required materials and equipment.
- Help coordinate multiple trades, identify work conflicts, and report constraints to the Superintendent before they affect progress.
- Support site logistics, including delivery routes, staging, laydown areas, housekeeping, temporary facilities, and protection of completed work.
- Assist with mobilization, installation access procedures, personnel vetting, delivery coordination, and site orientation.
- Participate in daily coordination meetings and progressively lead assigned discussions under the Superintendent’s guidance.
- Help plan activities around occupied facilities, security restrictions, approved outages, and owner operations.
Work Planning and Progress Tracking
- Assist in developing and updating short-term look-ahead schedules, work plans, and trade sequences.
- Track installed quantities, manpower, equipment, and daily production against planned work.
- Identify delayed deliveries, incomplete prerequisites, inspection needs, and other constraints. Follow up on assigned actions.
- Provide field progress information and photographs to support schedule updates and project reporting.
- Assist with quantity takeoffs and material checks needed for field planning and ordering.
Construction Documents and Field Records
- Read drawings, specifications, approved submittals, and contract requirements to understand assigned construction activities.
- Compare field conditions with project documents and promptly report discrepancies, constructability concerns, and potential changes.
- Help prepare requests for information with the Project Engineer and Project Manager. Track responses affecting field work.
- Help verify dimensions, elevations, existing conditions, and installation locations under qualified supervision. Coordinate survey and layout needs.
- Maintain daily reports, progress photographs, delivery records, field sketches, and current drawing sets.
- Capture field markups and as-built information as work progresses. Document concealed work before covering.
- Document field conditions associated with potential changes and provide factual records to the project team.
Quality Control and Inspections
- Assist the Quality Control Manager and Superintendent in checking work against drawings, specifications, approved submittals, and applicable project standards.
- Support preparatory, initial, and follow-up inspections, including review of work readiness and required documentation.
- Help coordinate testing, inspections, and required hold points before work proceeds or becomes concealed.
- Track deficiencies, communicate assigned corrective actions, and verify completion with the responsible project lead.
- Assist with punch lists, equipment startup coordination, turnover inspections, and collection of closeout records.
Safety and Site Protection
- Follow project safety plans and promote safe work practices, required protective equipment, and good housekeeping.
- Assist the Superintendent and Site Safety and Health Officer with safety observations, toolbox talks, and review of activity hazard analyses.
- Learn project-specific OSHA and USACE EM 385-1-1 requirements as applicable to assigned work.
- Promptly report hazards and incidents and take immediate protective action within training and site procedures.
- Support traffic control, pedestrian protection, excavation awareness, and coordination of work near utilities and occupied facilities.
Teamwork and Developing Field Leadership
- Communicate professionally with subcontractors, suppliers, government representatives, and project staff within assigned responsibilities.
- Follow through on field assignments and help maintain a respectful, accountable jobsite culture.
- Build knowledge of construction methods, building systems, civil work, productivity, and coordination between trades.
- Accept progressively broader responsibility for designated work areas or trade activities under the Superintendent’s supervision.
- Coordinate with the Project Engineer on submittals, RFIs, procurement status, and closeout items affecting field execution.
Required (Minimum Necessary) Qualifications
- Education Requirements: Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree, preferred in an Engineering Discipline or construction/management adjacent fields
- Level of Experience Requirements: Entry Level position, internship or 1-2 years full-time experience preferred.
- Required qualifications for hire: Valid Driver’s license, U.S. Citizenship, ability to obtain and maintain access to federal and military installations.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.
- Proficient in Bluebeam or similar PDF editing software
- Take ownership of every project as if it were their own.
- Anticipate problems before they impact schedule or budget.
- Hold subcontractors accountable while maintaining strong working relationships.
- Communicate openly and professionally with the project teams.

Necessary Physical Requirements

Must be able to lift approximately 40lbs alone. Must be able to spend extended periods of time (up to 1-2 hours) on your feet or walking around a project site, potentially on uneven surfaces or within areas actively in construction. Must be able to get to the project site on time, and under your own means of transportation, this includes onto secure government facilities, through access control points.

Physical Setting: Work locations will vary depending on project locations, all project operations are based out of our Hanover, MD office. Project sites include locations in the greater Baltimore and DC-Metro areas. Employees are expected to transport themselves to and from project sites, or the main office on a daily basis.
Schedule and Flexibility: Normal work hours are Monday through Friday, start times vary depending on the project from roughly 6:00am to 8:00am and typically end between 3:30pm and 5:30pm. Employees are expected to be punctual and willing to work at the project site for the duration of the onsite work hours.
Other Pertinent Work Details: Project locations regularly require a vetted access to the project sites. Employees must be able to acquire and maintain access to federal installations, military bases, etc. Employment is contingent upon successfully completing any required background investigation, pre-employment drug screening, and obtaining access to applicable federal or military installations.

Additional Qualifying Factors
