Electrical Reliability Services (ERS) is looking for talented Electrical Building Commissioning Engineers to join our Commissioning Group nationally. As part of its plan to grow the Commissioning Group, we have several exciting opportunities for all levels of experience for both Mechanical and Electrical Building Commissioning Engineers.
Electrical Commissioning Engineer: Perform and manage commissioning procedures for electrical power systems, including medium- and low-voltage distribution systems, data centers, critical facilities, and other mission-critical infrastructure. Manage and lead commissioning projects and support commissioning teams through planning, execution, testing, and project closeout. Be self-motivated, proactive, and capable of working independently with limited supervision. Position is very mentally demanding and requires candidate to be self-aware.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform all aspects of commissioning for electrical systems, including utility service entrances, medium-voltage switchgear, low-voltage switchgear, switchboards and panelboards, protective relaying systems, uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems, battery systems, static transfer switches (STS), power distribution units (PDU), remote power panels (RPP), automatic transfer switches (ATS), standby generators and paralleling switchgear, grounding and bonding systems, electrical power monitoring systems (EPMS), and SCADA and control systems.
- Conduct commissioning-focused design reviews to verify compliance with the Owner's Project Requirements (OPR), Basis of Design (BOD), and project specifications.
- Review electrical equipment submittals, shop drawings, protection coordination studies, short-circuit studies, and arc-flash analyses.
- Develop commissioning plans, specifications, forms, checklists, and project documentation.
- Interpret and apply electrical drawings, specifications, one-line diagrams, control schematics, and sequence of operation documents.
- Develop pre-functional testing, factory witness testing (FWT), site acceptance testing (SAT), functional performance testing (FPT), and integrated systems testing (IST) procedures and scripts.
- Execute commissioning tests and verify system performance in accordance with project requirements.
- Verify installation, startup, operational readiness, and performance of electrical systems.
- Witness equipment energization activities and critical switching procedures.
- Identify, track, document, and coordinate resolution of commissioning deficiencies and issues.
- Prepare commissioning reports, readiness assessments, turnover documentation, and final closeout deliverables.
- Work safely and effectively in active construction environments while maintaining compliance with company and site safety requirements.
- Coordinate with owners, contractors, manufacturers, testing firms, and operations personnel throughout all project phases.
- Serve as the commissioning lead on small to moderately sized projects, with responsibility for planning, coordination, communication, and execution.
- Monitor project schedules and commissioning milestones to help ensure timely project delivery.
- Provide regular project updates and maintain clear communication with clients and project stakeholders.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships through responsive service and technical excellence.
- Support project management activities including scope management, scheduling, budgeting, staffing, and proposal development.
- Support business development efforts by identifying opportunities for additional commissioning and related professional services.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduate Bachelor Engineer (BSEE or Electrical Engineering Technology Degree preferred).

- Graduate of applicable Electrical Commissioning Technical Training and minimum two years of related electrical testing, commissioning, construction, operations, or maintenance experience.
- At least (5) commissioning projects including Design, Construction, and Acceptance phase processes.

- High school education or equivalent and five years minimum same or similar work experience.
- At least (8) commissioning projects including Design, Construction, and Acceptance phase processes.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of industry commissioning standards and best practices including ASHRAE Guideline 0, ASHRAE Standard 202, NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, NETA ATS, NETA MTS, IEEE standards, and Uptime Institute commissioning methodologies.
- Commissioning certification (BCxP, CCP, AABC CxA) is preferred.
- NETA certification, PE license, or equivalent industry credentials preferred.
- Familiarity with LEED®, sustainable design principles, and green building certification processes; LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP) credential is preferred.
- Strong technical knowledge of electrical power systems and their operation, including utility distribution systems, medium-voltage distribution, low-voltage distribution, protective relaying, generators, UPS systems, battery systems, ATS equipment, switchgear, electrical power monitoring systems, and mission-critical power infrastructure.
- Experience with the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of electrical equipment and systems.
- Knowledge of protection coordination studies, short-circuit studies, arc-flash studies, and electrical system operations.
- Strong working knowledge of electrical testing equipment including: power quality analyzers, relay test sets, megohmmeters, primary injection equipment, secondary injection equipment, and power monitoring systems.
- Experience commissioning data centers, healthcare facilities, industrial facilities, utility infrastructure, or other mission-critical facilities.
- Ability to independently plan, organize, schedule, and execute commissioning activities for medium- to large-scale projects and programs.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver projects on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with client expectations and quality standards.
- Proven ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with clients, owners, contractors, design professionals, and project stakeholders.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively present technical information to clients, project teams, and senior leadership.
- Ability to prepare clear, concise, and professional technical reports, correspondence, and project documentation.
- Effective collaborator who works well within multidisciplinary teams in a fast-paced project environment.
- Demonstrated professionalism, sound judgment, reliability, and technical expertise.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint), internet-based research, document management systems, and computer-based testing and monitoring equipment.
- Willingness to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, holidays, or overnight shifts as project requirements dictate.
- Ability and willingness to travel, including extended out-of-town assignments and occasional international travel.
- Ability to work safely in office, construction, industrial, and mission-critical environments, including standing, walking, climbing ladders, accessing mechanical spaces, and lifting up to 25 pounds as required.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

- Frequently required to sit, climb, and balance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, basic color differentiation and the ability to adjust focus.
- Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and frequently lift and/or move 100-pound test sets.
- Valid Driver’s License.
