• Balance new feature delivery with technical sustainability, maintainability, and risk mitigation.
• Bring strong technical judgment — helping engineers navigate design and architecture trade-offs in alignment with long-term goals
• Drive delivery excellence and system reliability by leveraging operational metrics, incident trends, and DataOps signals (e.g. data freshness, schema drift) to inform technical decisions and prioritise engineering improvements. Use metrics (e.g., delivery velocity, incident trends, performance) to guide decisions and improve flow

Assemble: Build and Support the Team

• Build a high-performing, lean team with the right mix of skills, experience, and growth potential

[What we're looking for]

You may be a great fit if:

• Able to apply deep expertise in event-driven architectures by designing and operating scalable event-driven systems and stream processing solutions, modelling complex event flows to enable fraud detection, product insights, business intelligence, and real-time capabilities such as feature stores.
• You have the ability to provide strong technical leadership and mentorship by offering clear technical guidance, promoting engineering best practices, and empowering engineers through ownership, autonomy, and effective delegation. You are a technically credible leader — able to support architecture discussions, unblock delivery, and earn the trust of your team
• You are able to drive alignment across engineering, product, and relevant stakeholders through clear communication, strategic influence, and collaborative decision-making.
• You stay close to the technical details — whether through architecture reviews, design docs, code reviews, or hands-on support when needed
• You care deeply about your team's growth, wellbeing, and performance — and know how to coach engineers toward excellence
• You bring clarity—helping teams prioritise, plan, and focus in a complex environment
• You believe in developer experience and delivery flow as key levers for system health and impact
• You understand how software systems and engineering practices scale — and can guide improvements across architecture, testing, observability, or infrastructure
• You believe in shared success — and collaborate openly across functions, domains, and agencies
• You take ownership of outcomes — and hold the team to a high standard of quality, security, and delivery.

We're especially excited by EMs who:

• Bring strong technical judgment and can help engineers navigate architectural trade-offs
• Have grown engineers from junior to senior through mentorship,
  opportunity, and feedback
• Have improved delivery flow through data-driven improvements in velocity or predictability
• Understand the link between engineering culture, equity, and system health
• Embrace modern governance, security, and platform practices as part of engineering leadership
