Embedded Software Engineer

Sensio is a Nordic leader in the health care technology sector and is solving the elderly care challenges of today – and building the solutions of tomorrow for the benefit of residents, patients, healthcare personnel, and society. We create sensors, systems, and platforms that radically improve the quality and efficiency of health care – leading the sector to embrace technology and provide #MoreTimeForCare.

Sensio is on a journey from being the leading tech company in Scandinavia in the elderly care space to becoming a trusted transformation partner across Europe. We were acquired by Nordic Capital in 2024, one of Europe’s top private equity companies. Sensio has one of the leading in-house product development organizations in Norway with about 80 product people — in total we are a team of 210 colleagues across Norway, Sweden, Denmark, the UK, and Germany.

About the role

Are you driven by solving hard technical problems – the kind that require both patience, persistence, and creativity? Do you enjoy figuring things out while standing knee-deep in unknowns? Then we’d love to meet you!

We’re looking for embedded developers who want to shape the future of healthcare and education technology through smart, connected products. You’ll work on wireless systems that save lives, improve communication, and make classrooms sound better – all by getting the firmware just right. In our team, we’re working with cutting-edge technologies and modern tools to shape the future of healthcare and educational technology. If you’re passionate about building pioneering technology from the ground up, you’ll feel right at home here.

You’ll be part of a highly skilled and multidisciplinary product development team, collaborating closely with hardware, app, and cloud developers. The systems you help create will be used in home care, care homes, private residences, and schools.

The position is located in Sandefjord (Vestfold) and reports to our Tech and Development Lead.

Responsibilities:

• Develop robust, efficient, and secure firmware in C/C++ for resource-constrained embedded systems.

• Work with RTOS-based environments like FreeRTOS and Zephyr.

• Contribute to platform development on STM32 and Nordic nRF microcontrollers.

• Design and implement low-power wireless communication protocols using Thread, BLE, and WiFi 6.

• Optimize for power consumption, reliability, and safety in real-world use cases.

• Participate in system design, code reviews, debugging, and hardware bring-up.

• Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure tight integration across the full stack – from sensor to server.

What we are looking for:

• Preferably 3+ years of experience working with embedded systems.

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer engineering, cybernetics, electronics, or similar.

• Strong skills in C and C++ programming for embedded systems.

• Hands-on experience with RTOS environments and real-time firmware development.

• Good understanding of wireless communication technologies (BLE, Thread, WiFi, etc.).

• Experience with microcontrollers (especially ST and/or Nordic Semiconductor).

• Familiarity with debugging tools, oscilloscopes, and low-level system analysis.

• Fluency in Norwegian and English, written and verbal.

Bonus points for:

• Previous experience with Zephyr RTOS or FreeRTOS in commercial products.

• Background in low-power system design, medical devices, or safety-critical systems.

• Knowledge of security practices in embedded systems.

• Comfort with CI/CD, version control (Git), and automated testing frameworks.

• A passion for breaking down tough problems – and sticking with them until they're solved.

What we offer

• The opportunity to work on products that genuinely improve lives.

• A strong embedded team where you’ll grow by solving real engineering challenges.

• Access to a full product development pipeline – from idea to field deployment.

• Hybrid work options and a culture built on trust and flexibility.

• Professional development opportunities – including time to explore and learn.

• Competitive salary and benefits.

• A friendly team where curiosity and initiative are truly appreciated.

Let’s be honest. You’ll get stuck sometimes. The problems we’re solving don’t always have obvious answers. But if you love the feeling of figuring something out that seemed impossible at first — and if you're the kind of person who can’t let go until the problem is solved — then you'll probably thrive here.

Come help us build the systems that create #MoreTimeForCare.
