Drafter / Illustrator
Location: Riverside, CA
Salary Range: $71,000 - $82,000/yr.
Position Summary
The Drafter / Illustrator will play a critical role in supporting the visual communication and technical documentation of ENC's transit bus platforms, including battery-electric, hybrid, CNG, and diesel vehicles. This role is responsible for translating complex engineering CAD models into clear, stylized visuals, exploded views, and service illustrations for interactive parts catalogs and maintenance manuals. This position supports the full product lifecycle from concept through production release and serves as a technical leader within the illustration function. This position is based at ENC's headquarters in Riverside, California, and requires close coordination with U.S. and international engineering teams, suppliers, and manufacturing partners.

- Develop and maintain clear, stylized visual illustrations, exploded views, and graphics for service manuals, marketing schematics, publications and interactive parts catalogs.
- Translate conceptual layouts and complex 3D engineering models into easy-to-understand visual documentation for customers and service technicians.
- Utilize graphic tools (e.g., Adobe Illustrator, CorelDRAW) and lightweight 3D viewers (processing GLB and GLTF files with Draco compression) to optimize CAD geometry for publication.
- Coordinate the implementation, data alignment, and ongoing maintenance of the Documoto interactive parts catalog tool.
- Ensure technical illustrations align accurately with engineering Bills of Materials (BOMs), CPQ deliverables, and ERP systems such as Epicor.
- Strip away unnecessary manufacturing data to create end-user-focused schematics of transit bus structures, chassis components, and mechanical subsystems.
- Create, maintain, and improve illustration standards, templates, libraries, and naming conventions.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams.
- Support prototype builds, drawing corrections, and continuous improvement activities.
- Implementation of Redline changes in the drawings and moving them to the next revision
Position Requirements
- Associate degree or technical certification in Graphic Design, Technical Illustration, Drafting, or related field; bachelor's degree is a plus.
- 5+ years of professional technical illustration or drafting experience in automotive, heavy-duty vehicle, or industrial equipment environments.
- Advanced proficiency in illustration software and technical documentation tools.
- Strong hands-on experience with interactive parts catalog software, specifically Documoto.
- Familiarity with SolidWorks CAD models, SolidWorks PDM workflows, and exporting lightweight 3D model formats.
- Experience supporting BOM accuracy and alignment with CPQ logic and ERP integration.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Detail-oriented with strong ownership of product definition quality and a disciplined document-control mindset.
- Self-motivated and collaborative in fast-paced environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Highly Desirable: exposure to Technical Writing, Publishing, and/or Technical Parts/Maintenance Manual creation.
- Preferred: experience in transit buses or heavy-duty vehicles.
- Preferred: familiarity with vehicle structures and mounting systems.
- Preferred: exposure to regulatory-driven design environments.
Work Environment
This is an onsite position based at ENC's headquarters in Riverside, California and requires being 100% onsite. The role requires close coordination with U.S. and international engineering teams, suppliers, manufacturing partners, and cross-functional teams.
