Distributed Systems Engineer 4/5 - Cloud Platform Infrastructure Engineering Tooling

Netflix is one of the world's leading entertainment services, with over 300 million paid memberships in over 190 countries enjoying TV series, films and games across a wide variety of genres and languages. Members can play, pause and resume watching as much as they want, anytime, anywhere, and can change their plans at any time.

Netflix has been changing how people watch shows and movies, enabling on-demand access to thousands of movies and TV shows. Recently, Netflix has expanded its entertainment offering to include Live content, like the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson match, the NFL Christmas Games, Beyonce's halftime show, the SAG Awards ceremony, and more. Bringing stories in real time to 300+ million viewers around the world is a hard challenge, demanding exceptional levels of scaling, reliability, stability, and operational excellence across our Cloud Platform stack.

About the Team

Cloud Infrastructure Engineering (CIE) builds and operates the foundational platform that Netflix runs on — compute, storage, networking, and performance infrastructure, at global scale. We think of ourselves as platform engineers for infrastructure: building the systems, tools, and abstractions that let Netflix's engineering organization move fast without compromising reliability or efficiency.

We are building the Cloud Infrastructure Tooling team in Warsaw — a new team that will sit at the center of CIE, acting as a multiplier across compute, storage, networking, and performance teams. The charter is to build internal tooling, developer-facing UIs, and shared services that reduce duplication and let CIE's domain teams to increase velocity. The problems we'll solve are technically challenging: our customers will be some of the most demanding infrastructure engineers in the industry, and the systems they depend on run at Netflix scale.

What You Will Do

• Design, build, and operate software solutions and tooling that serve CIE's compute, storage, networking, and performance engineering teams — the engineers who run Netflix's cloud infrastructure.

• Solving real business needs at a large scale by applying your software engineering and analytical problem-solving skills.

• Building software solutions and tools to improve developer experience and product experience in collaboration with team members and stakeholders.

• Architecting and building a robust, scalable, and highly available distributed infrastructure.

• Responsible for driving alignment with stakeholders and setting partner expectations.

• Leading cross-functional initiatives and collaborating with engineers, product managers, and TPM across teams.

• Sharing our experiences with the open source communities and contributing to Netflix OSS.

What We Are Looking For

• 7 or more years of experience designing and building complex, scalable distributed data infrastructure

• Proficiency in at least one of: Java, Go, or C++, with a strong software engineering foundation that enables you to write clean, maintainable, high-performance code.

• Practical understanding of at least one infrastructure domain — compute, distributed storage, or cloud networking or performance.

• Experience owning and delivering high-impact systems end-to-end, with accountability in dynamic and sometimes ambiguous environments.

• Experience building and operating scalable, fault-tolerant, distributed systems

What Sets You Apart

• Motivation to work on infrastructure that other engineers depend on, with a focus on building systems that are reliable and resilient.

• Bringing a product mindset to internal tooling: you think about developer experience, adoption, and the real-world impact on the teams you serve.

• Comfort with ambiguity and experience helping to shape problem definitions as well as solutions

• Experience contributing to or engaging with open source infrastructure communities.

• You approach technical challenges from first principles — you don't reach for familiar patterns when a better solution exists.
