Design Engineer

About the Role

As a Design Engineer, you will join our mechanical engineering team supporting the design, development and continuous improvement of wireline intervention equipment, primarily winches and masts.

Your work will combine maintaining and improving existing product designs with developing new, customer-driven solutions. Day to day, you will work extensively with 3D CAD and contribute across multiple aspects of machinery design — from structures and truck-mounted equipment to power calculations, component selection and the integration of mechanical systems.

This is a role with broad engineering exposure rather than a narrow specialist focus. You may work alongside several engineers on different parts of the same complex design, collaborating to ensure the complete system works together effectively. You will also have opportunities to see your engineering work progress beyond the screen through product builds, testing and factory activities.

About the Team

You will be part of a collaborative mechanical engineering team working across Kintore and international locations. The team combines independent engineering ownership with regular communication, design coordination and peer review, particularly where several engineers contribute to the same equipment.

New team members are supported by an experienced buddy and an onboarding programme covering systems, processes, 3D modelling and engineering best practice. Following this initial learning period, you will transition into live project work with progressively greater task complexity and independence.

About NOV

NOV is a global provider of technology, equipment and services supporting energy production and industrial operations. Through its engineering, manufacturing, service and digital capabilities, NOV helps customers improve operational performance, safety, reliability and efficiency worldwide.

This role supports NOV's wireline intervention equipment activities, where engineering teams develop and maintain equipment used to support well intervention operations, including winches, masts and associated machinery.

Why Join NOV

This opportunity offers exposure to a wide variety of engineering challenges across complete machinery rather than limiting you to one component or discipline. You will have the opportunity to develop experience in 3D design, mechanical systems, calculations, manufacturing, builds and testing while learning from experienced engineers.

The team is also working with evolving technologies, including fully electric winch solutions, providing exposure to both established equipment and new product development. Longer-term development can include product-specific learning, technical training and progression towards more senior engineering responsibilities.

Diversity & Inclusion

At NOV, we are committed to creating an inclusive workplace where everyone can thrive. We value diversity in all its forms and believe that different perspectives drive innovation and success. We welcome applications from all qualified candidates regardless of gender, age, ethnicity, nationality, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, or any other characteristic protected by applicable law.

• Design and develop mechanical equipment and components for wireline intervention products, with a particular focus on winches, masts and associated machinery.
• Create and modify 3D CAD models, engineering drawings and technical documentation for new and existing product designs.
• Develop practical engineering solutions in response to customer requirements, product improvements and technical challenges.
• Perform engineering calculations and technical assessments to support design decisions, including structural, mechanical and power-related considerations where applicable.
• Review technical and customer specifications and translate requirements into manufacturable engineering solutions.
• Collaborate with other engineers, manufacturing teams and relevant technical disciplines to coordinate complex equipment designs.
• Support design verification, product builds, testing and factory acceptance activities.
• Investigate engineering queries and product issues, identifying and documenting appropriate technical solutions and design changes.
• Consider cost, manufacturability, technical performance and project schedules when making engineering decisions.
• Develop knowledge of NOV products, engineering processes and applicable industry standards while progressively taking greater ownership of project work.
