About the Role
We are looking to hire an experienced and passionate Databricks Platform Engineer to join Digital Factory. The new team member will be part of our Platform Engineering Team, responsible for operating, governing, securing, and continuously improving the Databricks platform. The role focuses on platform reliability, governance, automation, observability, and enablement of engineering teams, rather than building ETL pipelines or implementing business-specific data transformations.
Main Responsibilities
Operate, govern, secure, and continuously improve the Azure Databricks platform, ensuring reliability, scalability, security, and cost efficiency.
Manage Databricks workspaces, environments, account-level settings, identities, and platform access controls.
Administer Unity Catalog, including data access governance, permission management, and platform compliance standards.
Define, maintain, and enforce cluster policies, compute governance standards, and recommended platform usage patterns.
Monitor platform health, performance, reliability, consumption, and operational KPIs using observability and monitoring tools.
Manage platform incidents, perform root cause analysis, drive preventive actions, and contribute to service reliability objectives (SLOs).
Collaborate closely with Platform Engineers, Azure DevOps Engineers, Data Engineers, and Data Operations Experts to provide a secure, reliable, and scalable platform foundation.
Contribute to infrastructure automation, CI/CD processes, Infrastructure-as-Code implementations, and platform lifecycle management.
Support engineering teams by providing technical guidance on platform capabilities, governance, security, performance optimization, and best practices.
Drive platform cost optimization initiatives and contribute to FinOps practices through monitoring, analysis, and usage optimization.
Create and maintain platform documentation, operational procedures, standards, and engineering best practices.
Evaluate, test, and introduce new Databricks capabilities and platform features in line with the platform roadmap and evolving business needs.
Follow agile ways of working and actively contribute to the continuous improvement of the Platform Engineering practice.
About Your Experience and Skills
Education
University or college degree with specialization in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
Certifications in database management or cloud computing are a plus.
Experience
2+ years of experience operating, supporting, or administering Databricks platforms in production environments.
2+ years of AWS/Azure PaaS preferred.
2+ years of automation frameworks such as Terraform preferred.
Retail IT domain background is a plus.
Professional and Technical Competencies
Strong understanding of of data platform architecture, governance, and cloud-based data processing concepts.
Hands-on experience with Azure Databricks administration, configuration, and platform operations
Familiarity with cloud computing platforms like AWS and Azure.
Familiarity with Azure services commonly used alongside Databricks (e.g., ADLS, Azure Monitor, Key Vault, Azure DevOps).
Understanding of data platform, workflow orchestration, and CI/CD concepts.
Knowledge of access management, platform governance, Unity Catalog, or cloud security concepts is an advantage.
Experience with big data technologies and real-time data processing is a plus
Python and Bash for scripting and automation
Practical experience generating process documentation and reports.
Professional usage of Microsoft Office Suite.
Experience with Atlassian JIRA and Confluence.
Experience in working with agile methodology and following the best practices of the digital engineering team.
