Data Engineer

Industrial relations is complex. Payroll compliance shouldn’t be. At Yellow Canary, we automate payroll compliance and employee entitlement verification, helping some of Australia’s largest employers ensure accurate pay for their workers. Our platform ingests payroll, timesheet, and rostering data to detect variances within Awards and Enterprise Agreements.

Founded in 2017, we are a team passionate about innovation, problem-solving, and fostering a culture of respect, value, and empathy. If that sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you.

About the Role

As a Data Engineer, you'll design, build and optimise Python data pipelines for ingestion, and identify trends and innovations in data platforms to inform the future development of our solutions. You'll have the opportunity to grow your responsibilities and build your skillset with the support of our experienced Data Team, and contribute to the development of new tools, products and services.

What you bring:

You’ll be a fantastic addition to Yellow Canary if you have:

• 3+ years professional experience building production data pipelines with Python and Pandas
• Demonstrated track record designing and implementing ETL or ELT workflows for complex large-scale data pipelines
• Comfort with Git, unit testing and modern CI/CD (we use GitHub Actions)
• Clear communication, attention to detail, and a hands-on mindset

Why join Yellow Canary?

• Work on impactful, real-world payroll compliance challenges
• Flexible work arrangements (Australian East Coast remote-friendly)
• Join a supportive team that values innovation, collaboration, and work-life balance
• Be part of a company making a difference in the industry

If you’re an entrepreneurial, hands-on data engineer who loves problem-solving and building scalable solutions, this role is for you. Apply today and be part of Yellow Canary’s journey.
