Role Description

The Data Engineer Intern will support the design, development, and maintenance of data pipelines and infrastructure that power Morero Intelligence Group’s intelligence solutions. Day-to-day tasks include assisting with extracting, transforming, and loading (ETL) data from various sources, contributing to data modeling and data warehousing activities, and helping ensure data quality, reliability, and performance. The intern will collaborate with data engineers, data scientists, and analysts to prepare datasets for analytics, reporting, and machine learning use cases. This is a full-time, on-site role based in Polokwane, requiring close coordination with the team and active participation in project work, documentation, and continuous learning.

Qualifications

• Foundational skills in Data Engineering and practical exposure to building or maintaining data pipelines.
• Knowledge of Data Modeling and Data Warehousing concepts to support structured and scalable data solutions.
• Ability to work with Extract Transform Load (ETL) processes and tools to move and transform data between systems.
• Basic competency in Data Analytics, including querying data and generating insights to support decision-making.
• Familiarity with databases (SQL and/or NoSQL) and at least one programming language commonly used in data engineering (e.g., Python, Java, or Scala).
• Understanding of cloud or distributed data environments (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP, or similar platforms) is an advantage.
• Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and ability to document technical work clearly.
• Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree or diploma in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• Interest in AI, data governance, and building technology solutions for the African context.
• Ability to work hybrid in Polokwane, collaborate effectively in a team, and learn in a fast-paced environment.
