The Role: Data Engineer (Acting Data & Analytics Lead)
We are looking for a senior, hands-on Data Engineer to join our Kewdale team on a six-month full-time maximum-term contract. Reporting to the Technology Manager or delegate, you will support and enhance Sadleirs' Snowflake data platform, ingestion pipelines, reporting modernisation, production data services and priority Data & Analytics initiatives.
During agreed leave-coverage periods, you will act as Data & Analytics Lead, maintaining technical and operational continuity across the Snowflake platform, production data services, reporting priorities and active Data & Analytics initiatives.
Your responsibilities will include:
Acting as Snowflake Data Platform Lead during agreed leave-coverage periods, maintaining platform stability, production support and development priorities.
Designing, building, testing and maintaining reliable Snowflake ingestion pipelines across SQL Server, files, APIs and operational/business applications.
Maintaining and enhancing the Snowflake platform across RAW, Silver and Gold layers, including databases, schemas, warehouses, roles and access controls.
Supporting and troubleshooting production data services across Snowflake, dbt, Azure Data Factory and related integrations.
Developing and maintaining transformations, dbt models, tests, audit controls, validation checks, error handling and incremental/backfill processes.
Supporting curated Power BI datasets and reporting modernisation, ensuring data is reliable and reconciled for operational and management reporting.
Supporting priority Data & Analytics initiatives, including Runsheet/Document Intelligence, AI-ready data products and operational data onboarding.
Managing code and deployments through Azure DevOps/Git, including version control and controlled DEV/TEST/PROD deployment.
Making production changes through established development, testing and deployment processes, with appropriate impact assessment, validation and documentation.
Maintaining technical documentation, runbooks and change records, with clear knowledge transfer and handover.
Providing day-to-day technical guidance and support to the Data Analyst during agreed leave-coverage periods.
What you'll need:
Relevant tertiary qualification in Data Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent commercial experience.
Strong senior commercial experience in Snowflake data engineering and production data platforms.
Advanced SQL skills and hands-on experience with Snowflake, dbt, Azure Data Factory, Azure DevOps/Git, Power BI and SQL Server.
Experience with data modelling, ingestion and orchestration, data quality, reconciliation and production troubleshooting.
Previous Data Platform Owner, Technical Lead or Lead Data Engineer responsibilities are highly desirable.
Microsoft Fabric knowledge, including Data Factory, Lakehouse/Warehouse, notebooks and semantic models.
Python/PySpark and Snowflake Cortex experience is desirable.
SnowPro Core and/or relevant Microsoft data certification is desirable, but not essential.
A practical, delivery-focused approach with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
Clear communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with ICT, reporting, AI Engineering and business stakeholders.
