What We’re Looking For From You
Requirements & Qualifications:
- Education: Trades Certification or post secondary in Construction Management, Engineering Technology, or equivalent combination of trade certification and extensive field management experience.
- Experience: 12+ years of progressive leadership experience on major industrial/energy construction projects, including facility builds.
- Safety & Site Certifications: Valid Safety Certifications (WHMIS 2015, CSO, Intermediate First Aid, H2S Alive, Fall Protection, etc.).
- Technical Proficiency: Strong ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings, blueprints, contracts, schedules, and financial reports.
- Leadership & Financial Acumen: Demonstrated success managing workforces of 30+ personnel, project budgets, risk mitigation, and client relations.
- Testing: Ability to successfully complete pre-access drug and alcohol testing.
- Travel & Work Environment: Willingness to travel away from home for extended periods and work comfortably on field sites in all weather conditions.
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
Project Execution & Management
- Provide executive on-site oversight of construction planning, scheduling, execution, quality control, and risk management across all phase lifecycles.
- Monitor project adherence to Alstar policies regarding HSE, QA/QC, HR, Training Within Industry (TWI), material tracking, and job-site requirements.
- Collaborate with field service operations to drive standardized work practices, schedule certainty, and cost performance.
- Manage large change orders, scope growth, and monitor estimated vs. actual costs to improve future estimations.
Constructability & Planning
- Support early-stage project development with constructability reviews, execution plans, and technical estimating support.
- Identify key project stakeholders during the bid stage and build collaborative relationships with local and Indigenous communities to align with corporate commitments and regulatory goals.
- Partner with client leadership for existing and prospective construction initiatives.
Safety, Quality & Compliance
- Deliver a strong safety message by example, taking direct ownership of incident trend analysis and alignment with the Safety Management System (SMS).
- Review and approve critical tasks, lift plans, and high-risk work procedures before execution.
- Ensure all legislative and organizational standards are met across all trade groups.
Workforce Leadership & Development
- Manage, mentor, and assess direct reports (including superintendents, supervisors, and site leads) to foster professional advancement.
- Execute Training Within Industry (TWI) practices—utilizing Job Instruction (JI) and Job Relations (JR) to train workers to the "One Best Way" outlined in Alstar Work Instructions.
- Oversee site workforce performance, attendance, leave requests, time approvals, and performance management.
Where Our Projects Are Located
Our projects take place across major sites in Western Canada, including locations such as Fox Creek, AB, Bonnyville, AB, Fort McMurray, AB, and Prince Rupert, BC.
Travel expectations: You will be required to travel to site locations by vehicle or plane. Alstar provides a flat travel rate and covers flight arrangements for site rotations.
