Acacia Systems is hiring senior and mid-level C++ engineers in Adelaide to build modern C++23 software on an up-to-date Linux toolchain for Australian Defence clients. The role is on-site, involving hands-on development, code reviews, mentoring (senior), and end-to-end project delivery with stakeholder interaction.
Did you get a degree in Software Engineering or Computer Science so you could:
Develop serious applications that delight users?
Work with and learn from other enthusiastic engineers?
Use the best tools available?
But instead, have you found yourself stuck:
Following tedious processes?
Writing documents nobody reads?
Working on legacy code nobody cares for?
Sitting through endless meetings?
Making fragile hacks to avoid breakage due to poor test coverage?
Using outdated proprietary tools and libraries?
Implementing someone else’s flawed design?
Cleaning up after poor decisions made by non-technical managers?
Being constantly interrupted?
At Acacia, we:
Have a cohort of passionate and collaborative engineers.
Do interesting, meaningful, and rewarding work.
Value fresh ideas and innovation, regardless of seniority.
Use an up-to-date Linux toolchain, including C++23.
Maintain a clean, modern codebase.
Take DevOps seriously.
Deliver real sovereign capability to Australian Defence through high-quality software.
This is a rare opportunity to be part of a team of exceptional software engineers delivering innovative capability to Australian Defence.
What the role includes:
Hands-on software engineering using modern C++23 and a clean, well-maintained codebase.
Team leadership, including mentoring and coaching (for more senior roles).
Close collaboration with Software Architects, Systems Engineers, and Testers.
Ensuring quality through code reviews, pair programming, and day-to-day collaboration.
Contributing to coding standards and driving uptake of new C++ language features.
Supporting project planning, task breakdown, and estimation.
Helping to deliver projects end to end, including client interaction and stakeholder reporting.
What we are looking for:
A genuine passion for software development and continuous learning.
Strong problem-solving skills and a collaborative mindset.
Willingness to work on-site and engage in face-to-face teamwork.
Essential Criteria:
Australian citizenship.
Eligibility for an Australian Defence Security Clearance and a National Police Check.
Minimum 2 years of commercial experience in a similar role, ideally in defence.
