About MarktplaatsMarktplaats is one of the Netherlands' leading online marketplaces, helping make commerce more sustainable by giving products an extended life. With over 2.1 million buyers and sellers visiting our platform every day, around 350,000 new listings added daily and users spending an average of 22 minutes per visit, we're building a platform that people use and trust. Every connection we enable helps people save money, earn money and reduce waste. As part of Adevinta, one of Europe's leading online classifieds groups, we're building products that make buying and selling second-hand products simpler, safer and better for everyone.
This role sits within our Product & Technology function in our Amsterdam office, home to over 300 talented professionals, where cross-functional teams design, develop and scale the products that millions of users rely on every day across our Benelux marketplaces, Marktplaats and 2dehands/2ememain.
You will join our Data team, reporting to the Head of Data. You'll lead the Business Analytics team: a group of Data Analysts who turn marketplace data into commercial decisions. You'll be the bridge between analytics and the business, working side by side with the Leadership Team, Finance, C2C, Motors, Pro/SMB and Marketing to make sure our data work drives real revenue and growth.
What You Will Do - Partner with business teams to turn strategic goals, KPIs, and assumptions into a prioritized analytics roadmap.
- Surface data-backed growth opportunities and support planning with measurable commercial recommendations.
- Convert complex analysis into clear narratives and actionable recommendations for senior stakeholders.
- Build self-service capability and trusted advisory relationships with business teams.
- Lead and develop Data Analysts while setting priorities, quality standards, and deliverables.
- Promote an organization-wide culture of insight-led decision-making.
- Ensure analytics is reliable through strong knowledge of data sources, flows, dashboard logic, and assumptions.
- Align data requirements and roadmap priorities with Analytics Engineering and commercial needs.
- Lead market and competitor intelligence by combining internal performance data with external benchmarks.
- Deliver regular, prioritized competitive insights through dashboards, updates, and executive briefings.
The challenge: turning analytics into a commercial enabler that business teams actively seek out, by combining internal data with external market signals to anticipate competitive shifts and improve business performance.
Who You Are- 8+ years of experience in commercially focused analytics, BI or strategy roles, ideally in a marketplace, e-commerce or platform business, including at least 3 years managing a team of data analysts.
- Strong commercial and finance acumen: you understand revenue drivers, forecasting logic and the trade-off between monetisation and volume, and can turn KPIs into value-creating priorities.
- Experience managing a team of data analysts, including setting direction and reviewing the quality of their output.
- A confident, consulting-style communicator: structured, concise and insight-first, with the ability to influence and challenge senior stakeholders.
- Hands-on working knowledge of analytics tooling (such as Looker, Tableau or Power BI) and modern data platforms (such as Databricks, GCP, AWS or Snowflake), plus enough SQL or Python to critically assess analysts' work.
- Demonstrated use of AI and automation to speed up insight delivery, for example LLM-assisted analysis, automated reporting or agentic workflows.
- Experience with competitive intelligence, third-party market data or external benchmarking (market share, pricing, positioning), linked to clear business decisions.
- Familiarity with platform monetisation models: listing fees, subscriptions, premium placement and take rate.
Bonus Points- Familiarity with classifieds, C2C marketplaces or two-sided platforms.
- Experience working alongside analytics engineering or data platform teams.
- Statistical modelling or machine learning experience.
