A three-month contract Business Analyst role in Christchurch supporting the Future of Population Statistics (FoPS) project. Day to day, the contractor leads discovery and requirements gathering, facilitates stakeholder workshops, writes and refines user stories in Agile, and helps build the project business case by translating technical concepts into business outcomes.
Our client is seeking an experienced Business Analyst to support the Future of Population Statistics (FoPS) Project on an initial three-month contract, with the potential for extension.
The role will focus on establishing the foundations required to validate and progress the project business case through discovery and requirements gathering activities. The successful candidate will work across business and technical teams to develop a clear understanding of requirements and translate technical concepts into business-focused outcomes.
Purpose of the Role The primary purpose of this engagement is to provide business analysis expertise to support:
Discovery and requirements gathering activities
Development and refinement of user stories
Strong understanding of Agile ways of working, user story development, and delivery planning
Translation of technical concepts into business requirements
Development of business case inputs and recommendations following the requirements phase
Engagement with business, technical and subject matter expert stakeholders across a complex and time-constrained environment
Key Deliverables The contractor will be expected to:
Lead and support discovery activities
Gather, document and validate business requirements
Facilitate workshops and stakeholder engagement sessions with business, technical and SME stakeholders
Develop and refine user stories and associated requirements artefacts
Identify business needs, outcomes, measures and future-state requirements
Work closely with technical teams to ensure business requirements are clearly understood
Support the development of business cases and associated recommendations
Key Capabilities
Business case development
Ability to connect business needs, benefits, risks and investment considerations
Experience working within Agile delivery environments
Strong user story development and refinement capability
Proven experience leading discovery activities
Requirements elicitation, analysis and documentation skills
Comfortable working through ambiguity to establish clear outcomes.
Skilled at translating technical language into business-focused requirements and outcomes
Able to work effectively in a time-poor stakeholder environment
Ideal Candidate
Strong Business Analyst experience across discovery and requirements phases
Experience contributing to business cases and investment proposals
Agile delivery experience, including user story development
Excellent written communication and facilitation skills
Proven relationship-building capability
Ability to quickly establish credibility and navigate complex environments
