Backend Software Engineer

At Weheat, we are building the next generation of heat pumps: cleaner, smarter, and affordable for as many households as possible. From our high-tech facilities in Duizel (Eindhoven region), we develop, test, and manufacture our own heat pumps—from initial concept to scalable production.

In Duizel, everything comes together: engineering, prototyping, testing, and production. You work here daily with other engineers, close to the hardware and real-world application. We work closely with our hub in Utrecht, but strongly believe in on-site collaboration when it comes to complex technology. Our culture is down-to-earth and ambitious, with a strong sense of ownership, short lines of communication, and a clear focus on progress.

Your role

As a Backend Software Engineer, you build the systems that make our heat pumps smart and scalable. You develop backend services that collect, process and expose data for monitoring, optimisation and product development. One day you’re working on robust APIs and data models; the next you’re analysing field data to improve performance and reliability.

You collaborate closely with embedded, control and product engineers. Working close to the hardware means you immediately see how your software impacts real products and real customers. You help shape backend architecture, make deliberate technical choices and build systems designed to grow with Weheat.

This is you

You’re a backend engineer who enjoys ownership and building software with real-world impact:

• Experience with backend development (e.g. Python, Java, Node.js or similar)
• A solid understanding of scalable architectures, APIs and data flows
• Experience with cloud environments and databases (SQL and/or NoSQL)
• You write clean, maintainable and testable code
• You enjoy collaborating with hardware- and product-focused teams
• You take ownership and can explain and defend your technical decisions
• You’re willing to work on-site in Duizel, close to the product
• You communicate well in Dutch and/or English

What we offer

At Weheat, you don’t build abstract features — you build software that directly affects physical products in people’s homes.

• Direct impact on clean energy, lower CO₂ emissions and comfortable homes
• A key role in the backend architecture of our heat pump platform
• A fast-growing cleantech scale-up without heavy bureaucracy
• High autonomy and responsibility in technical decision-making
• Close collaboration between software, hardware and operations in Duizel
• Competitive salary and solid benefits, aligned with your experience
• A team that values substance, collaboration and ownership
