AIDN helps independent private clinics run their patient communication on WhatsApp, the channel their patients already use every day. Our AI agents handle the front desk work that takes up so much of a clinic's day: booking, rescheduling and reminders (Reception), structured pre-appointment intake (Intake), and post-visit follow-up (Aftercare).
We started with pilots in rural Kenya, and today we serve independent clinics across South Africa and the UK, integrating with leading practice management and EHR platforms. We're backed by clinicians, healthcare leaders, cybersecurity experts and investment professionals who know our market first-hand. AIDN was founded by a third-time founder with a prior exit and 10+ years building B2B companies.
The role
You'll be our first engineer based in South Africa. As we grow the team here, you'll help shape how we build and who we hire. You'll own what makes AIDN work inside a real clinic: our integrations with EHR and practice management systems, and the layer our AI agents use to act on them. When a patient books on WhatsApp, that appointment has to land correctly in the clinic's diary. That's your job.
What you'll do
- Own partner API integrations end to end: build, sandbox testing, UAT, go-live and ongoing maintenance
- Build the integration layer our AI agents rely on: the tools Reception, Intake and Aftercare use to check availability, book appointments and write data back to clinic systems, and make sure they behave reliably in real patient conversations
- Work on the core product where it meets integrations: booking and availability logic, our API layer, caching, rate limiting and monitoring
- Work directly with partner technical teams and with our distributed engineering team
What we're looking for
- 4+ years as a backend-dominant full-stack engineer: strongest on the server side, but comfortable shipping frontend work when it's needed
- Real experience integrating third-party APIs in production, including the messy parts (auth, rate limits, inconsistent data, flaky sandboxes)
- Interest in production AI systems, and ideally some hands-on experience with LLM APIs or tool calling
- Based in or near Johannesburg (Pretoria and Centurion are fine) and happy to work from our Rosebank office, or based in Cape Town with regular visits to Johannesburg.
- SA health tech, medical schemes or practice management experience
- Payments or fintech integrations
- WhatsApp Business API, Twilio or other messaging platforms
- Early-stage startup experience
How we work
- Small team, real ownership. Integrations are core to our product, and you'll be the person who knows them best.
- Close to the customer. Our product runs inside working clinics. You'll see directly how your work saves receptionists hours and gets patients seen faster.
- Distributed, with a growing SA base. Our team spans South Africa, the UK and beyond, and we're building a local team that works together in person.
- Speed with care. We move fast, but we handle patient data, so we take POPIA, GDPR and reliability seriously.
What we offer
- R65,000 to R90,000 per month (cost to company), depending on experience
- Share options as an early team member, with standard 4-year vesting
- A bonus for every new partner integration you take live in production
- Your choice of laptop and setup
- An annual learning budget for courses, conferences and certifications
- Team offsites with our distributed team across South Africa, the UK and beyond
- The chance to be a founding member of our South African engineering team, with real ownership from day one
Your first 90 days
- Take a major EHR integration live in production across multiple clinics, with a runbook others can follow
- Connect a second platform integration in sandbox, working with their product team
- Put monitoring, rate limiting and alerting in place on every partner API
- Build a reusable integration requirements pack we can hand to new partners
Who you'll work with
You’ll work closely with our founder, our core product engineer and our AI engineer, and directly with the technical teams at our partner platforms. You’ll also share an on-call rota for partner integrations with the core product team.
Our process
A 30-minute intro call, a technical conversation about an integration you’ve built, a paid technical assignment for shortlisted candidates (around 3 to 4 hours), and a final chat with the founder. We aim to move from first call to offer within three weeks.
Ideally November 2026, with flexibility for notice periods.
We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and are committed to building a diverse team.
