Backend Engineer - FinTech (m/f/d)

About the Job

As a key growth accelerator, A11 partners with Europe’s most ambitious startups and scaleups, corporates and SMBs to connect them with top-tier talent ready to make an impact.

We’re looking for an experienced Backend Engineer (m/f/d) to work on the backend infrastructure that handles payments, financial data, reconciliation, and compliance-critical workflows — systems where correctness and auditability are non-negotiable.

Join the A11 Ecosystem – A next-generation supply chain platform, the company is redefining how one of the world’s largest industries sources, distributes, and finances materials. Engineered to unlock the full potential of global trade, it harnesses agentic AI and workflow automation to provide seamless, high-efficiency access to premium materials at scale. Since its commercial rollout, the platform has fueled exponential growth, optimizing procurement for thousands of businesses while setting new benchmarks for speed, transparency, and efficiency. Its competitive edge lies in full digitization and AI-driven supply chain management automation, eliminating inefficiencies and creating a direct, intelligent bridge between suppliers and buyers. With a team of 80+ FTEs across Europe (Berlin HQ), China, and India, the company is rapidly scaling toward profitability, driving triple-digit million GMV, and setting new industry standards in autonomous, AI-powered supply chain orchestration.

In this role, you’ll:

• Design and implement backend services for payment processing, invoicing, reconciliation, and smart financial reporting
• Build robust, auditable data pipelines that ensure accuracy and traceability across all financial operations
• Develop and maintain integrations with payment gateways, banking APIs, and financial data providers
• Enforce data integrity standards and implement patterns for idempotency, retry logic, and failure handling in financial flows
• Collaborate with compliance and product teams to translate regulatory requirements into technical implementation
• Contribute to fraud detection logic, rate limiting, and access control mechanisms that protect financial operations
• Own incidents end-to-end — investigate, resolve, and drive post-mortems to improve system reliability

Tech Stack: Java 21 (Spring Boot 3), Python, PostgreSQL, Kinesis, AWS, Terraform, GitHub Actions, Node.js, TypeScript

Your Profile:

• 5-7+ years of backend engineering experience, with meaningful exposure to FinTech, payments, or financial data systems
• Strong proficiency in Java (Spring Boot) with a deep understanding of transactional systems and data consistency
• Solid experience with PostgreSQL, including schema design, indexing, and query optimization for financial data
• Experience integrating with payment processors (Stripe, Adyen, or similar) or open banking APIs
• High ownership mindset — you care about correctness as much as you care about delivery speed
• Calm under pressure, structured in your thinking, and rigorous in your testing practices

Please note that this position is based onsite in Berlin.

Benefits and Perks:

• Real ownership from day one – shape operational processes in a fast-scaling, AI-first company
• Learn from the best – work directly with senior operators
• Competitive compensation – attractive base salary and performance-based bonus program
• Personal growth & visibility – rapid learning opportunities, cross-functional exposure, and early leadership potential in a growing global team
• Vibrant company culture – modern Berlin office, monthly All-Hands, team events, and regular offsites

If you’re eager to join the A11 Ecosystem and shape what’s next, we want to hear from you!
