Hebbia is hiring a backend engineer in NYC or San Francisco to own critical components of high-scale document-indexing systems, tuning performance across millions of documents while minimizing latency and mentoring junior engineers. The stack centers on Python/Java/Go, AWS, and data infrastructure like Kafka, Elasticsearch, PostgreSQL, and Redis.
You will turn complex requirements into robust backend systems, build and improve high-scale document-indexing capabilities, and optimize performance across millions of documents. You will provide technical leadership and mentorship while designing efficient data communication and distributed-system integrations.

Requirements
5+ years of backend software-development experience
Proficiency building backend and API systems with Python, Java, or Go
Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS
Experience with Kafka, Elasticsearch, PostgreSQL, or Redis
Ability to analyze complex problems and communicate technical concepts
Experience leading software-development projects
Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams
Rapid prototyping with user feedback
