The British Council’s Digital and Technology Directorate drives the organisation’s digital strategy and transformation. It delivers customer-focused digital products, scalable platforms and technology solutions that enable growth, impact and efficiency. Its Engineering team develops and maintains global digital products and services, championing reusable capabilities, effective engineering practices, innovation, and secure, accessible technology solutions.

Задачи:

Provide technical leadership and mentoring to backend engineers, promoting coding best practices, quality standards, collaboration, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement. Contribute to recruitment activities and identify opportunities for cost optimisation and efficiency. Plan and deliver backend engineering projects with product managers, stakeholders, and business partners. Design, code, review, test, and document backend solutions, adopting emerging technologies and delivering against project milestones. Ensure backend systems meet security, risk, compliance, and data privacy requirements by identifying vulnerabilities and maintaining monitoring and logging mechanisms. Incorporate customer feedback and analyse system performance and usage patterns with customer success teams, data analysts, and business analysts. Identify opportunities for continuous optimisation. Develop analytics and reporting capabilities. Prepare reports and presentations on engineering performance, progress, and insights for stakeholders.

Требования:

• Demonstrable backend engineering experience designing and implementing scalable, high-performance systems
• Strong knowledge of backend technologies, frameworks, and architectures
• Proficiency in .Net, C#, PHP, NodeJS, or Python, and experience with frameworks such as Symfony, Express, or Django
• Understanding of distributed systems, cloud architectures such as AWS or Azure, and microservices
• Experience with relational and NoSQL databases, data modelling, and query optimisation
• Knowledge of RESTful APIs, message queues, caching, containerisation, and orchestration platforms such as Docker and Kubernetes
• Experience with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Jenkins or Terraform
• Understanding of frontend technologies such as React or Angular
• Skilled in end-to-end, unit, and integration testing with tools such as Cypress, Jest, or Playwright
• Prototyping skills and experience in resource allocation, management, and component optimisation
• Excellent written and spoken English
• Skilled in agile development (Scrum/Kanban), software patterns, test- and behaviour-driven development, and version control
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or 3 years of equivalent experience in a related discipline
• Continuous learning through online courses, workshops, and industry conferences to stay current with backend development technologies and best practices
• Candidates must already have the legal right to work in Poland at the time of application
