The Department of Communication at Tulane University invites applications for a tenure-line Assistant Professor or Associate Professor position in media history. Areas and approaches of interest may include broadcast media, cinema, digital media, video, media archaeology, intermediality, or industrial/institutional histories. The ideal candidate’s research must be grounded in historical methods (including archival research and/or interviews) and their critical theorization. Candidates must also have an established record of peer-reviewed publication appropriate for rank. Applicants with production experience or who produce media (e.g., video essays, podcasts, digital humanities) as part of their research are especially encouraged to apply.
We seek a faculty colleague to expand and innovate in the “Texts and Representations” area of our core curriculum (https://liberalarts.tulane.edu/departments/communication/academics/thecommunication-major). Candidates should be prepared to teach a core course in this area of the curriculum (Film Analysis, New Media Analysis, Rhetorical Analysis, or a course of their own devising). Candidates should be experienced pedagogues who are additionally prepared to teach introductory courses and seminars in their areas of specialization. The course load for this position is 2 – 2. Applicants must hold a PhD in cinema and media studies or a related field.
