Architect (Embedded & Software)

Bring more to life.

Are you ready to accelerate your potential and make a real difference within life sciences, diagnostics, and biotechnology?

At Radiometer, one of Danaher’s operating companies, our work saves lives, and we’re all united by a shared commitment to innovate for tangible impact. You’ll thrive in a culture of belonging where your unique viewpoint matters, and where continuous improvement helps turn ideas into real-world impact.

At Radiometer, life comes first. Our vision is to improve global healthcare with reliable, fast, and easy patient diagnoses—and cybersecurity plays a critical role in ensuring safe and secure products for patients and customers worldwide.

About the Role

In this role, you will provide technical leadership and architectural direction for the development of diagnostic instrumentation. You will be responsible for defining, evolving, and governing embedded software and system architectures that enable scalable, reliable, secure, and maintainable products.

In this role, you will collaborate closely with Product Management, Systems Engineering, Hardware Engineering, Software/Firmware Engineering, Verification & Validation, Quality, and other cross-functional stakeholders to translate product and platform strategies into robust technical solutions that enable confident diagnostic decisions, and improve patient outcomes. You will drive architectural decisions, establish engineering standards, resolve complex technical challenges, and guide teams through the successful delivery of high-quality products.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

• Define and drive the architecture, design, and evolution of embedded software systems and platforms for medical diagnostic instruments.
• Lead the development of secure, scalable, reliable, and maintainable software architectures spanning firmware, real-time processing, device control, communication, diagnostics, and system integration.
• Translate product requirements into well-defined architectural solutions, including component decomposition, interface definitions, technology selection, and dependency management.
• Lead architecture, design, and code reviews to ensure technical quality, consistency, and compliance with organizational and product objectives.
• Collaborate with Hardware, Firmware, Systems, Mechanical, Verification & Validation, Quality, Regulatory, and Product teams to deliver integrated instrument solutions.
• Collaborate with global R&D teams and stakeholders to influence technical direction, align architectural roadmaps, and support long-term product and platform strategies.

The essential requirements of the job include:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electronics Engineering, Embedded Systems, or a related field, with 14+ years of experience in embedded software development, firmware engineering, systems architecture, or related technical roles.
• Proven expertise in architecting and developing complex embedded systems using C/C++, with strong knowledge of software architecture, object-oriented design, design patterns, system-level engineering, interface design, and architectural trade-off analysis.
• Deep understanding of embedded and real-time systems, including RTOS, multithreading, synchronization, interrupt handling, memory management, performance optimization, and deterministic system behavior.
• Hands-on experience with embedded communication and networking technologies, including UART, SPI, I²C, CAN, USB, Ethernet, TCP/IP, and similar protocols.
• Demonstrated technical leadership in cross-functional product development teams, including mentoring engineers, driving architectural decisions, influencing technical direction, and exhibiting strong analytical, communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills.

It would be a plus if you also possess experience in:

• Experience architecting embedded systems for medical devices, IVD platforms, laboratory automation, scientific instrumentation, or other regulated industries, with knowledge of applicable compliance and quality requirements.
• Expertise in designing high-reliability, safety-critical instrument control systems involving sensors, motors, pumps, valves, measurement systems, diagnostics, fault-tolerant architectures, risk controls, and recovery mechanisms.
• Experience with medical device standards and cybersecurity requirements (e.g., IEC 62304, ISO 14971), as well as modernization of legacy embedded systems and migration to next-generation architectures and platforms.
