Applied AI Director

About Board Of Innovation

BOI is the AI transformation studio that Walmart, Coca-Cola, and Mastercard call when AI needs to drive growth, not just savings. We bring together the unusually strong in frontier enterprise AI - then give them the ownership to make it happen. If you're looking for a comfortable place to hide, we're not it. If you want to build the future of enterprise AI with people who will make you better - welcome home.

About The Role

As an Applied AI Director, you will own the quality and delivery of complex AI transformation engagements end-to-end. Working closely with our Managing Director of Applied AI, you'll be the senior person across both delivery and proposal development - making sure what we sell is valuable, what we deliver is excellent, and what reaches clients brings the clarity required to enable decision making and strong execution.

You'll lead clients from C-suite priority to working AI capability: structuring opportunities and business cases, defining top-down execution roadmaps, and driving the build, adoption, and value realization of AI products. Your bias is simplification: finding the shortest path to value, not adding frameworks. You've built and deployed AI products for real users, and seen their impact. You know the distance between a demo and production, and you use AI daily. We believe the best people to lead AI transformation are those who live it themselves.

What You Will Do

Lead Delivery, from Business Case to Production

• Own end-to-end delivery of complex, multi-workstream AI programs, from problem framing through build, deployment and measured value.
• Independently structure approaches, set direction, define top-down roadmaps the organization can actually execute, and define what good looks like, in production, not on slides.
• Run product discovery with client teams and end users. Find the workflow worth changing, define the first release, set success metrics, and decide what to cut.
• Shape the solution architecture, and recommend build, buy or configure decisions you can defend to a client CTO.
• Navigate ambiguity with confidence, making decisions and keeping things moving without waiting for direction.
• Be a trusted partner to clients: shape their agenda and manage complex stakeholder dynamics

Drive Proposals & Commercial Growth

• Independently structure proposals, scope engagements, and shape commercial strategy
• Grow accounts by identifying real expansion opportunities grounded in what you've delivered
• Turn successful engagements into case studies, thought leadership, and reusable IP

Pioneer AI & Develop the Team

• Champion AI-first ways of working through your own daily practice. Build your own tools and workflows.
• Lead, coach, and develop team members across multiple engagements
• Set high standards, give direct feedback, and give credit generously

What We Screen For

We are deliberately not for everyone. We look for a specific combination of qualities:

• Low ego - You're confident, but grounded. You own mistakes, invite critique, share credit, and make the team better
• High aptitude - You learn fast. You think clearly. You simplify complexity. You bring 10+ years of experience in consulting, agency or custom solution environments serving enterprise clients. You've led complex engagements and know the difference between what sounds good in a deck and what actually works. You feel comfortable moving fast from strategy to product
• High ownership - You don't wait to be told. You move things forward, take responsibility beyond your role, and stay resourceful in ambiguity
• Technical depth - You have a STEM background and have demonstrated the ability to translate that background into business impact
• Driven - You care about outcomes, not activity. You follow through. You find a way
• Commercial sharpness - You've grown accounts by shaping the right problems and structuring credible proposals. You understand how senior buyers evaluate feasibility, risk, and value
• Passionate - You are passionate about understanding problems and building solutions with AI. You've built your own workflows, tools, or automations
