AI Engineer

Ready to make AI work beyond the proof of concept? At ABN AMRO Verzekeringen, your next AI engineering challenge combines the opportunities of both banking and insurance. You get the best of both worlds: the entrepreneurial character of AAV, the scale and expertise of NN, and a broad range of real-life challenges where AI can make a difference.

This is an exciting time to join. AI engineering is growing, our organisation is evolving and we are exploring how new technology can help us serve customers and colleagues in smarter ways. That means there is room to experiment, take initiative and influence how we work. You will join a diverse network of specialists, contribute your own ideas and help us move from exploring what AI could do to showing what it can do.

What you are going to do

In this role, you design, build and improve AI solutions that are reliable, maintainable and ready to use. You work with data scientists, engineers, product owners, platform teams and business colleagues to translate real problems into practical solutions, and you help make sure AI can be adopted responsibly within AAV and NN.

Key responsibilities include:

• Translate business, user or organisational needs into practical AI solutions with a clear technical design, expected value and success criteria
• Design, develop and maintain AI applications, APIs, services and reusable components using Python, cloud services and relevant AI techniques
• Work on generative AI, LLM-based, RAG, document intelligence, agentic or decision-support solutions
• Bring AI solutions from prototype to production-ready setups by applying CI/CD, automated testing, deployment pipelines, monitoring, logging, documentation and secure development practices
• Contribute to reusable standards, templates, components or platform capabilities that help teams apply AI more effectively and consistently
• Stay up to date with relevant AI engineering developments and assess which techniques are useful, realistic and responsible for NN

What we offer you
NN invests in an inclusive, inspiring work environment and in skills and competences for the future. We match this with employee benefits that are in line with what is needed today and in the future. This way, we offer our employees the opportunity to get the best out of themselves. We offer you:

• Salary between €5,933 and €7,910, based on 40 hours, depending on your knowledge and experience
• 13th month and holiday allowance are paid with your monthly salary
• 27 vacation days for a 5-day working week and three Diversity Days
• A modern pension administered by BeFrank
• Plenty of training and learning opportunities
• NS Business Card 2nd class, which gives you unlimited travel, also privately.
Do you prefer to travel with your own transport? Then you can declare the kilometers travelled
• Allowances for setting up your home office and for internet use

Who you are

You have solid experience applying AI engineering or software engineering in a business environment. You are able to work independently on AI solutions, challenge assumptions and translate technical possibilities into practical solutions that create value.

• You have a completed master’s degree in a relevant field, such as computer science, artificial intelligence, data science or another quantitative discipline
• You have 3 or more years of experience in AI engineering, software engineering, ML engineering or a closely related role
• You are familiar with version control, cloud tooling, CI/CD, automated testing, release pipelines or software engineering principles and can apply them in day-to-day work
• You understand how to bring AI solutions from prototype to a more stable setup together with data scientists, data engineers, cloud engineers or platform teams
• You are able to explain technical concepts, choices and limitations clearly to both technical colleagues and business stakeholders
• You are comfortable working in an agile environment and can adapt your approach based on changing priorities or new insights

Who you will work with

We are currently reshaping the data organization within AAV because we want to leverage as much value from advanced analytics and AI as we can. In joining our team, you have the opportunity to help shape this future.

You will collaborate with colleagues from different specialisms, as well as with stakeholders across both the business and IT. Depending on the solution you are creating, you may work with people from AAV, NN, or both. That means you will build relationships with colleagues in different teams and locations across the Netherlands.

We work in a hybrid environment, with around two days a week in the office. We also organise Data Days and other activities for the wider data community. And because learning from mistakes is part of how we improve, we even celebrate them with our “borrelpot”.

Our team is diverse, friendly and open. Everyone has the space to be themselves. If you enjoy meeting colleagues outside work, Young AAV and NNYP organise social activities across the country. If you prefer to head home after a day at the office, that is equally understood. Speaking Dutch is a plus, but not a requirement.

You will also be an active member of the Data Science & AI guild, a community of around 100 data scientists and AI Engineers across NN. Here, you contribute to knowledge sharing, define best practices, and collaborate on advancing AI standards across the organisation.
