🚀 AI Engineer – Enterprise Knowledge Base (EKB)

Manchester, Leeds, Bristol, Birmingham or Edinburgh – Hybrid (2-days per week onsite)

£800 per day – Inside IR35

6-month contract initially – strong potential for extension

I’m currently looking for an experienced AI Engineer to join a major greenfield Enterprise Knowledge Base (EKB) programme within a leading UK banking organisation.

This is a genuinely exciting opportunity to help build an enterprise-scale AI platform from the ground up, connecting data and knowledge from platforms including Confluence, Jira, ServiceNow, Teams and other enterprise sources.

What you’ll be working on:

• Building enterprise Generative AI / LLM solutions
• Developing RAG pipelines using embeddings and vector databases
• Building and integrating AI Agents / Agentic AI
• Prompt Engineering and Context Engineering, with a strong focus on optimisation and cost
• Developing AI-powered knowledge discovery and retrieval capabilities
• Building ingestion and data pipelines for enterprise knowledge
• Working primarily with Python, SQL, Git and GCP
• Integrating enterprise platforms through REST APIs
• Contributing to architecture, technical spikes and target-state design
• Testing and evaluating AI solutions for performance, reliability and safety

🧠 Key experience:

• Strong Python development
• Generative AI / LLMs / NLP
• Prompt Engineering – essential
• RAG, embeddings and vector databases
• AI Agents / Agentic AI
• REST APIs, SQL & Git
• GCP or another major cloud platform
• Experience taking AI solutions from prototype through to production

⭐ Desirable:

LangChain, LangGraph, MCP, Knowledge Graphs, Semantic Search, Responsible AI, AI Evals, re-ranking and caching.

LangGraph isn't essential — candidates with strong LangChain/RAG/Agentic AI experience and the right engineering mindset will be considered.

This is a greenfield, strategically important AI programme with significant backing. You’ll have the opportunity to influence the architecture and technical direction while helping build a foundational knowledge layer that can be consumed across the wider organisation.

The expectation is that the programme could continue for 2–3+ years, subject to funding, providing strong potential for longevity.
