Who You Are
As the R&D Manager (DevOps), you will lead, maintain, and continuously improve the development infrastructure, build systems, release automation, and software tools that support Research and Development and other relative business needs. The role combines hands-on technical understanding with people leadership, project management, and cross-functional coordination. You’ll need all of it to deliver software solutions, build processes, and utilize supporting tools reliably, securely, efficiently, while staying aligned with FANUC business goals. You will oversee DevOps and build system initiatives, support project-specific requests, and guide the team through release activities while managing multiple complex priorities and communicating effectively with internal stakeholders, including executive management.
How It’s Done
- Lead and/or participate in requirements gathering, specification, design, technical development, implementation, maintenance, and enhancement of DevOps tools, build systems, software solutions, and supporting applications
- Provide personnel management, mentoring, performance guidance, career development support, and day-to-day prioritization for team members
- Manage team execution of the software development and release lifecycle, including feature specification, design, implementation or coding, code review, test specification, test implementation, execution, results analysis, documentation, productization, and release
- Own and continuously improve build system reliability, automation, source control practices, integration workflows, artifact management, release readiness, and development tooling used by R&D teams
- Determine delivery schedules, resource needs, priorities, and risk mitigation plans for committed developments and support requests
- Coordinate and resolve significant issues related to existing software, build tools, release processes, development environments, and field-reported or internally reported problems
- Collaborate with individuals across the R&D organization to establish effective applications, workflows, tools, and support processes
- Communicate development status, schedules, risks, technical direction, and issue resolution plans to management, FANUC America business units, FANUC HQ, IT, and other stakeholders as necessary
- Represent the DevOps team in management and executive discussions by providing clear insight into project progress, challenges, dependencies, opportunities, and process improvements
- Apply knowledge of technologies, applications, methodologies, processes, software development practices, security expectations, and quality procedures to support robust and maintainable systems
- Update and modify design, engineering, and operational documentation as required for assigned developments
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to quality, project timing, and customer-focused delivery
What You Need
- Bachelor's degree in Business Information Systems, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent field of study
- Minimum five years of practical experience and proficiency with applicable programming languages, or equivalent experience
- Demonstrated leadership, mentoring, team development, organizational, prioritization, and communication skills
- Experience with DevOps practices, build automation, continuous integration, continuous delivery, source control systems, artifact management, and software development toolchains
- Analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify causes, evaluate options, and recommend practical solutions
- Project management skills with the ability to plan, organize, track, execute, and close out multiple concurrent assignments
- Knowledge of software development lifecycles, release processes, quality expectations, code review practices, testing practices, and documentation requirements
What Would Be Even Better
- Programming or scripting aptitude in technologies such as C, C++, C#, Python, PowerShell, batch scripting, .NET, ASP.NET, HTML5, JavaScript, CSS, SQL, or comparable technologies
